Semor Class Hzstory 0 54 I suppose eyery famrly has 1 chest of souxenrrs set asrde Every member of the famrly has eontrrbuted to the beloved artrcles found rn the chest Wfell we have a famrly chest also And who rs our famxlv' The Senror Class of 54 Throughout the last four years we have been collectrng cherrshed artrcles and have set them asrde rn our chest of souvenrrs And tonrght for the frrst trme srnce rts completion we shall open rt before you lets see Wfhat haye we here' Now what can thrs be' A prece of crepe paper mascara and a baby bottle' Oh yes how could we forget our mrserable but fun spent days of rnrtratron And here rs a worn but treasured Freshman Relrgron Book whrch calls to mmd the wonderful rnstructrons and classes grven by Father Floyd Calars a newly ordaxned prrest As the book rs lard asrde our eyes rest on a parr of whrte gloves and a whrte letter C whrch brmgs back the memory of the brrth of the Brown jackets And we remember that the Brown jackets consrsted of Freshres Alas the Freshres go on to another year of school and another step closer to therr goal Now we reach our Sophomore year Yes the class of 54 now were brgshots They had earned money by sandwrch sales and had thus opened their frrst bankrng account under the name of Mu Kalpa Alpha As we lay the bank book asrde we see a gold medal the medal merrted by Rose Marre Le compt at the elocutron contest Why heres a newspaper clrpprng wrth a prcture of Su zanne Pesson 4 H Presrdent and also Parrsh Vrce Presrdent Pattr Smrth and Joyce Mazerole held the class offrcers posrtron But the Sophomores drdnt work and not play Barbara Waguespack Rose Marre Lecompt and Desrree Wrllramson made therr debut at the St Peters Carnrval Mt Carmels trro drd xery well at state durrng and after thrs year And of course the Alto and Second Parts came from Imelda Broussard and Pattr Smrth Suzanne Pesson Desrree Wrllramson showed therr bakrng skrll rn the 4H by wrnnrng Second plaee for therr demon stratron Catherrne Garzotta placed frrst rn numerous projects Joyce Mazerole and Catherrne Garzotta showed therr scho lastrc abrlrty by plaemg at Drstrrct The class enjoyed therr ervrcs class and also their teacher and hated to see Mrs Xllfrllram Qurck leave Mt Carmel And so another year full of memorres and souvenrrs rs tucked away not only rn our famrly chest but m each and every grrl s heart And when alas the junror year rounds the bend the class realrzes they will soon be on therr own We fmd an old and yellow wrth age school newspaper which was publrshed by the junror class Later rn the year they rarsed money to support the paper by sellmg stuffed dogs A sheet of musrc remrnds us of the Sugar Cane Festrval and the beautrful srngrng done by the Junrors A lrttle gold pm remmds us of the eventful usrt to the chapel when the class recerved junror prns A srlver megaphone recalls the cheerleaders of 53 were Desrree Wrllramson and Charmame Abbot The class regretted seerng Imelda Broussard lease Mt Car mel when wrth her famrly she moved to Lottra Suzanne Pesson and Charmame Abbot enjoyed partrcrpatmg rn the St Peters College Carnival A certrfrcate tells us that Rose Marre Lecompt was the second place wrnner of the Sodalrty Contest A post card from Baton Rouge rnstructs us of the wonder ful and enjoyable trmes had when Pattr Smrth and Rose Marte Lecompt attended Pelrcan Grrls State As rs the custom the junrors gase a breakfast rn honor of the Senrors Soon to follow thrs banquet was the long awaxted class night The junrors rendered a song rn honor of the Seniors And on Graduatron sang together for the last time that year And alas their footsteps are gurded to therr last year here at Carmel on the Teche In September we entered the halls of Carmel as Senrors Wfell the year progressed as years are apt to do and rt was trme for the Student Councrl presrdentral race The candrdates were Rose Marre Leeompte and Pattr Smrth Pattr ran wrth the Snuffy Smrth Platform and Rose Marre wrth Peppy Le Peu The race was close but Pattr was the proud and able yrctor In the same week the class offreers were elected Lovdr Porter was elected Presrdent wrth Mary Ann Landry as Vrce President Desrree Whllnnwon as Secretary Barbara Nell XX'aguespack Treasurer and Barbara Lynn Dronne as Reporter Seyeral of the gurls were rn the Beta Club Suzanne Pesson Barbara Waguespack and Catherme Garzotta The yearbook staff was also ehosen Desrree Vlhllramson was elected as Edrtor wrth Pattr Smlth as Assocrate Edrtor The typrsts were Barbara Wfaguespack and Catherrne Garzotta The 4H offrcers also brought some of the senrors mto the lrmelrght Suzanne Pesson was elected Presrdent She and Rose Mane Lecompt were also elected parrsh offrcers The Frosh Queen Dance came rn February wrth Pattr Smith Suzanne Pesson Desrree Wrllramson and Jackre Tyler put trng therr heads together to plan one of the most successful dances of the year Medals for placrng at the IAAOA rally tell us that a good many semors showed therr abrlrty Catherrne Garzotta went up for Chemrstry Barbara NX'aguespack for Shorthand Composrtron Pattr Smrth for Grrls Trro and Rose Marte for Oratory Desrree placed fourth at drstrret and Rose Mane rated Superror at state Four semors had part wrth the basketball team actrvrtres Rose Mane was Frrst Ard Manager Pattr was scorekeeper Suzanne was trmekeeper and Charmame Abbot was cheer leader The proud wrnner of the Anna B Shwrng award was Rose Marre Lecompt As we turn once more toward the chest we see seyeral small objects nestled together rn one large group We prck one up' What rs rt you say? It rs a medrum srze capsule wrth a prece of paper rolled up rnsrde I-low can we descrrbe the excrtable role whrch these capsules played At a Mother Daughter tea grven rn our honor the great and long awarted spell was frnally to be broken wrthrn the matter of seconds In front of all present these capsules 13 of them were placed rn a box and then elevated rnto the arr by the powerful hand of Mother Dorothy and thus the drawrng began Mrs Shwrng was the person elected to do the pullrng As she removed the fxrst capsule everyone held hrs breath she smrled pleasantly and announced Lovdr Porter Second Mard fGoddess of Beauty, Then another cap sule was drawn and revealed the name of Suzanne Pesson Maud of Honor fGoddess of Loyel then last but not least the thrrd and fmal capsule was opened and all heard the name Rose Mane Lecompt Queen Carmel of 54 The other re mamrng Senrors later reccned names representrng drfferent goddesses Well what do you know?
