In years to come we the Senuors of 53 wull look back wuth varued emotuons on our school days at Mt Carmel on the Teche We have gone through the four doors of hugh school and are uustly proud of our accomplushments These four doors represent our four hugh school years From knowledge we gauned experuence from exper uence we became understandung and by under standung we were wuse In September of the year 1949 a skeptucal group of young ladues graced the halls of Mt Carmel These young ladues were none other than the Freshman Class As they assembled wuth the rest of the hugh school students they .wutnessed a certaun feelung of prude They had funally come to theur furst year of theur four years un hugh school after hav! patuently struggled through eught years of grammar grades Wuth smulung faces and twunklung eyes full of antucupatuon they stumbled across the furst door of theur hugh school year that of knowledge as Mother Dorothy greeted them wuth a beamung smule full of fruendluness Thus year promused to be a successful and eventful one for the opto mustuc Freshues as they busuly set themselves to work wuth determunatuon lnutuatuon came along and they were no longer unnocent Freshues They were furst nousy babues then fuerce cannubals and funally raggedy tramps Despute the usual ordeals they had undergone the Freshues bravely survuved wuth no casualtues Thus year for the furst tume at Mt Carmel a Student Councul was establushed The Freshues rendered theur help to promote the campaugns and were allowed to vote for the offucers As tume went on theur classes proved to be quute unterestung and humorous especually theur Englush and Reluguon classes wuth Fr Moag Un der Fr Moag the nousy Freshues were turned unto a dugnufued group of Shakespearean actresses and also comeduans How they gleefully mastered epuc and narratuve and every other conceuvable kund of poetry Halloween came and wuth ut a grand slumber Party at Joys house Then came Thanksguvung and funally the Chrustmas Holudays But wuth the comung of the Holudays the class lost one of theur students Martha Bruggs who moved to Floruda Wuth the begunnung of the New Year however the class welcomed another student Kutty Mc Dowell who hauled from somewhere un Mus sussuppu 6444 The actuvutues at Mt Carmel buzzed along smoothly wuth the basketball team wunnung sev eral tournaments and the 4 H Club toppung the rest at Achuevement Day A retreat was guven for the students and many of the students were re ceuved un the Thurd Order of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Then came the trup to Chucago for the members whuch was excutung and eventful and wull always be remembered The remaunder of the year went by almost too quuckly and funally May Festuval had arruved Then as vacatuon neared there was the never to be forgotten puc nuc No I at C premort Pount lt seems that at thus certaun pucnuc he class duscovered that despute hus many talents Fr Moag was quute an apprentuce at druvung a school bus But the class survuved every one of them as Father merruly drove the bus home un furst year After havung receuved theur report cards the Freshues went home to enuoy theur vacatuon wuth theur unforgetable mem orues not very far behund them As September of the year 1950 rang un another school year at Mt Carmel a certaun group of young ladues were no longer Freshues but Sopho mores They now assembled un ranks wuth an aur of prestuge After bluthely stumblung through theur Freshue year they now trudged wearuly across the second door of theur Sophomore year that of experuence Wuth anxuous faces and eager eyes they an tucupated the outcome of theur second year un hugh school The same faculty greeted them even Fr Moag together wuth Shakespeare and Karl Marx and refutatuon of hus theorues and a trusty freshly sharpened meat ax Thus year a new stu dent was added to the class Patsy Marsalus As unutuatuon came thus year the Sophomores were un supreme command as they tortured the unnocent and unwary Freshues Then Football Homecomung came as the Soph proudly boasted Sylvua Segura who was chosen Queen The bas ketball team added theur usual clean slate to the numerous laurels bestowed upon Carmel and won several tournaments The Student Councul remauned at Mt Carmel and helped the faculty deal wuth the students The Sodaluty and Thurd Order helped to brung souls closer to GOD through Mary Halloween thus year was as usual celebrated wuth the slumber party at Joys Thus practuce ut us needless to say has become an unbreakable . , . . . . ' ckzlazq habst wstn thss partscular class Thanksgsvsng and Chrsstmas came by agasn thss year wsth all the seasonable festsvsty As all the classes returned from thesr ensoyable holsday vacatson the Sophs too grsmly set forth to succeed sn thesr studses After msd term exams and the tests the Sophs together wsth the rest of the hsgh school ensoyed an snspsrsng retreat wsth Fr Arnold O Carm as retreat master Needless to mentson the benefsts were unmentsonable Then 4 H Achsevement Day came wsth Mt Carmel emergsng vsctorsous as usual The beautiful month of May agasn marked another May Festsval and the comsng of vacatson Here ss mentsoned the never to be forgotten psc mc No Il The camp at Cypremort Posnt was the scene of much calamsty and dssturbance wsth the strasns of the Trsumphful March from Asda msngled wsth the nosse of Spske Jones Agasn another year had gone by and agasn the Sopho mores dashed homeward wsth thesr memorable days of unforgettable snstances lsngersng sn the past Vacatson went by swsftly and the Sophomores wsth the newly acqusred tstle of .lunsors found themselves faced wsth the four doors Thss tsme the door of Understandsng beckoned them to enter So determsnedly they stepped through st Gee' What a surprsse' We were prsvsleged to be sn the same room wsth the honorable Sensors New and hsgher forms of study challenged us among them geometry and typsng The latter was most snterestsng and we found st hard to keep our feet stsll as we tapped to the mussc of Harry James or Tommy Dorsey The excstement of recesvsng Junsor psns was almost more than we could bear for st meant that we were that much closer to our Sensor rsngs We were taught Relsgson by our Carmelste Chaplasn Fr Arnold McCarthy The course on marrsage was especsally ensoyable and at the end we felt thoroughly prepared for that noble career As the year progressed the unsurprsssng suc cess remasned wsth the basketball team the Sodalsty the 4 H Club and The Thsrd Order of Mt Carmel Joys house under the dssgusse of Mays Motel was agasn the scene of the annual Halloween slumber party The holsdays came by qusckly and even went by quscker As the school term drew to a close we spent our efforts helpsng to make the May Festsval a success and maksng the Sensors last days at Mt Carmel as happy as posssble The year of years had fsnally come as T952 our new school year approached We were msghty Sensors' Our prevsous school years took on a new meansng for they had brought us to thss fourth and fsnal door As we blsthely glsded across the threshold of the door of Wssdom we tsngled wsth the antscspa tson of recesvsng our rsngs of new studses of our Sensor Ball and of graduatson Our former classmate Phyllss Gentman had re turned to share our Sensor loys What an honor our Pressdent Sylvsa recesved as Queen Sugar XII' We all resosced wsth her for she was truly deservsng of the honor In October we recesved the dsstsngusshed em blem of Carmel sn the form of our Sensor rsngs at an smpresssve but prsvate ceremony Who wsll forget those snterestsng Chemsstry classes? The campus was snvaded by mad alchemssts but Mt Carmel stsll stands by the grace of GOD Short hand presented a challenge which we met wsth ourage and determsnatson P S We learned shorthand All of our actsvstses took on a new meansng as we realszed fully and only too well that thss was our last year at Mt Carmel wsth our classmates As the basketball team gathered honors and trophses they became more ssgnsfscant to the Sensors on the team as thss was the last year they were to contrsbute to the glory of Carmel The same ssgnsfscance followed wsth the other nu merous actsvstses wsth the same thought sn msnd always At our slumber party on Halloween at Mays Motel we also realszed that thss was the last tsme we were probably gosng to be together as a Sensor Class The Chrsstmas Holsdays came and went by swsftly As sn all Sensor years the days glsded on wsth s rapsdsty no one could seem to fully understand At last Graduatson Day' The long awasted mo ment had arrsved and we walked down the assle of the new St Peters Church as the fsrst class to graduate there We have done our best to up hold the stand ards of Mt Carmel and to do her honor Tho we may be forgotten we wsll never forget our frsends our teachers or our dear Alma Mater Mt Carmel As we look tothe future We fo get not the past W 1l's golde and treasured rsemor es of our school days at Carmel And of our class ares wh ch w ll forever last ' I I . h - I , . , . .
