ARGUMENT The ancestral estate of Prince Chan is held in trust until the night of the Feast of the Little Lanterns when it shall be given to any two sur- viving children. Princess Chan having lost her brother and sister when they were children at play in the mountains is in great sorrow at the thought of losing her home. The first act opens with the celebration of the Feast of the Little Lanterns, various legends being woven into the texts of the songs. Some amusement for the Princess is introduced in the person of the little Japanese juggler girl, much to the disgust of the governess who would regulate affairs of children in China. The beginning of the second act finds the Princess still sorrowing and lamenting. The celebration is delayed when Wee Ling is caught in mischief. The j uggler maid brings news from the Emperor that the sister of the Princess is alive and near and orders a search. The finding of the little sister causes much excitement and the Princess is overjoyed that the home shall con- tinue to be theirs. The curtain falls with The Feast of the Little Lan- terns progressing with gaiety. x A State Divisional Music Contest, April 10, 1926 At the Divisional music contest at Osceola, friends of the Mt. Ayr schools were given more reasons for admiring her talented representa- tives. Our High School was awarded more honors than any other High School there represented. First places were awarded to the Girls' Glee Club and the Band, also to Myrtle Spurrier for piano solos, and Marion White for violin solos. They won the right to represent this district at the State Contest at Iowa City. Second places were awarded o the Boys' Glee Club and Chorus, also to Orlan Mapel who played a Trombone solo and to Howard Todd who played two Clarinet solos. Evan Mapel won a third place by singing two vocal solos. Much credit is given their musical instructors, Mrs. Mapel and Mr. Stewart, for the winning of these many honors.
