120 To wallow in the muck of half-ful- filled promises and uneasy compro- mises was not the destiny of the Ju- nior Varsity Soccer team. The team competed in fourteen contests. The team won fourteen contests. The purpose of the J.V. program is not however, to win ballgames, it is to develop players' team-oriented and individual skills. Learning to take on challenges, make good choices, accept responsibility and evaluate one's own performance are the goals of J.V. soc- cer. On the other hand, winning all the games is fun. During the course of our fourteen game season we scored 61 goals while giving up 15 to our opponents. Kevin legs Knox and Brady Redbird Burgess were the high scorers. Matt Pride Buonincontro directed our defense and earned the teams Most Valuable Player Award. Knox was the teams Most Improved Player. The prestigious Kamikaze Award was given to Dave glasses Clayton and Buonincontro. Chris keeper Ge- migniani gave up less than one goal a game. More important than the individual statistics and awards is the team. The players you see on this page are good. They were successful because they played as a team. I'm proud to have been associ- ated with them during the 1985 season. Standing: Coach J. Rivers, C. Gebo, M Blaise, C. Gemigniani, A. Serafin, M. Buonincontro, C. Salvador, K. Thompson, J. Sodano, S. Clark, C. Thompson, K. Benway, H. Darling, R. Hutchins, J. Rathbun, Coach M. Stetson, A. Cota, K. Hender- son, K. Choauette, J. Hoag, A. Masse, P. Wallace A young group of hardworking Freshmen combined with experience and skill of the Sophomores resulted in a successful 10-2-1 season. Captains Jody Rathbun and Andrea Cota displayed fine leadership and skill which gave their teammates the desire to win. Sophomores Nicole McKean and Cota combined with Freshmen Sherri Bedard and Cathy Clark to give the offensive punch. Defensively, Sophomores Rathbun, Jean Heiser, Carol Thompson, Kristen Benway, Reta Hutchins, and Freshmen Kris Cho- quette and Jacki Hoag limited the scoring opportunities of their opposition. Goaltend- ers Heidi Gagnon and Holly Saunders were in a class by themselves. Between these two they combined for over 50 saves, 8 shutouts and allowed only 4 goals. The highlight of the season was winning the Mt. Abe J.V. tournament. Every player showed desire, determination and hustle that was needed for each tournament game. I was proud to be the coach of this team. These girls offer the Mt. Abe Field Hockey program a bright future. j v
