What did you get for 2 Dave? ♦V.- 41 Merry Mary? THE FINAL MOMENT The game is over, we didn’t win the school song is played, and tears begin the last football game I'll ever cheer lost in the dust of a promising year. We were the best, we should’ve won Our hopes were as high as the shining sun But came that fateful night we lost and shattered our dreams, our title cost. The ground is cold as we sit and cry two of my closest friends and I We're seniors and this game was our last now we realize that the season went too fast I take one last look around the field my tears to better thoughts now yield for good memories far outlast the bad of the best three years I've ever had Of Friday nights at this field here surrounded by noise and friends so dear As we leave the field the lights go out I tell myself there's nothing to cry about but the tears start as darkness descends on those final moments spent with two close friends. We hug each other and more tears start for on Haddorf field we’ve left a part of our lives that now can only be nothing but a beautiful memory. by: Mary Ellen McGinnis What will it be like to be a graduate? Our thoughts are often turned back to that fateful day last spring when Kris met her untimely death in a car accident. How can we ever forget her contagious laugh, cheerful disposition, and never ending smile? Kris always had a kind word for everyone. The class of ”77” will never forget her. I am the resurrection and the life, whoever believes in me, though he should die, will come to life; and whoever is alive and believes in me will never die. John 11:25 She wrote her own story, a chapter each day. By the things she did, and what she had to say. Charlie Daniels Band, Hall Oats, Spot, her family and her friends she loved a lot. And in our memories of her we’ll always remember her love, her goodness, her warmth, and her laughter. Our friend Patty gave to us from way down deep inside her. Deb Harris KRIS MILLER . . . Led by co-captains Tim Koehler and Dale Womeldorf, the Mohawks ended a fine year, the seventh straight winning season (14-8), but were disappointed in the fact that the conference championship and a state tournament team failed to materialize as the Mohawks, in a valient effort, lost to a much larger Robbinsdale team in the quarterfinals of region play. The Mohawks finished a respectable tie for third place in the Suburban West Conference behind Glencoe and Waconia and tied with Orono. The team was not without its personal glory, however, as Tim Koehler received first team all-conference guard; Dale Womeldof was named all-conference; Kevin Sorbo and Mark Muth received honorable mention and Jim Woytcke was the recipient of the Coaches’ Award. Individual honors were earned by the following: Captain Rick Howells was scoring champion, most valuable player and all conference, Jeff Thomford was all-conference, Jim Stanke was clearing champion, Mike McCormick was most improved player, and Jason VanBockel scored the most goals. Seniors Rick Howells, Jeff Thomford, Tim Myers, and the defensive duo of Mike Boylan and Jay Basel deserve much credit for our team's success. Congratulations on a good year. J.V. - FRONT ROW: M. The team average showed an increase of 11 points per game from the previous year. Mickey was named the team’s most valuable player and she and Reta Zuccaro were named to the all-conference team. Robin Bandel won the most improved award. Inspirational play and leadership from co-captains Anita Smiley and Reta Zuccaro were instrumental in leading the girls to a very successful season and a third place finish in conference play. The season was also highlighted by strong student and community support resulting in larger, more enthusiastic crowds. Increased news coverage, a parents’ night, an overnight trip to Alexandria, new uniforms, and a twenty game schedule all helped to generate spirit and make the season enjoyable as well as successful. The Co-Captains for the team were David Heitkamp, and Tim Bennyhoff. Dave’s record for the season was 17-4-1 and Tim’s was 17-6-0. Next year the Mohawks are looking forward to a productive season. After receiving first and second place finishes at the Minnesota State Science Fair, Chuck Clevenger placed an impressive 4th in the microbiology division at the International Science Fair held in Denver. He learned of the State Science Fair through his biology teacher Mr. Anderson. Chuck’s successes in state competition which made him eligible for international honors is unprecedented in Mound-Westonka history. It is highly unusual for a sophomore (as Chuck was last Spring) to compete so effectively in his first year of competition. Chuck decided on his project after consulting with some of the members of the Freshwater Biological Institute. Chuck’s project was concerned with what effect certain bacteria have on various chemicals which pollute the lake. Chuck’s achievement at Denver qualifies him for future competition in New York. He will be competing at the National Science Symposium this May at West Point. 127 POP SINGERS — CONCERT CHOIR POP SINGERS - S. Carlson, L. Finifrock, Z. KenKnighi, M. Buysse, L. Roelofs, B. DIANE My bicentennial experience began in August and has marked one of the most meaningful years of my life. Experiences, guidance, friendships and love have been the fashionings of glorious colour harmonies upon my inner most being, provoking such a wealth of joy almost impossible to describe. This joy has grown from the many meaningful friendships I have made at Mound, as each person has made my year a little more meaningful. Along with my friends, my family the Andersons, will forever remain alive in my memories because they kept and loved me as I am their daughter and sister. A.F.S. is a two-way experience, and so it is my sincere wish that I have made the international bonds of friendship and understanding more meaningful, and have given others a small share of what I have experienced this year. Mound you have given me a deeper thirsting for life. Thank you and hopefully I'll be back some day. 162 TOM Mohawks, When I applied for an AFS scholarship back in 1975 I did not know what AFS was all about, but Mound showed me what it is about. This year became a year of love and new experiences for me. And I think I picked a good year. I experienced the hottest summer and by far the coldest winter ever in my life, and it has been a successful Mohawk year too. Moreover AFS gave me the fabulous O’Neill family to live with. I think, during this year I got to know more people than in my whole life before and I hope that many more AFS students will have the chance to spend a wonderful year in Mound. If anyone of you ever come to Europe, be sure to visit me! Thanks to you all, Mohawks, for a beautiful and terrific experience. I will never forget you. 163 ANDREA Dear Mohawks: My year is almost over now, and I must say, it was a very, very good one!! Sure, even in a good year there are ups and downs, but the important thing is that there are people who share your ups and help you during your downs, people who care about you. I want to thank all of you for your friendliness and the helping hands that were always in reach in times of lonliness and sadness. This year passed very quickly, but the memories will always be on my mind! I learned a lot about other people and myself. I learned that friendship, friendly words and smiles, is one of the most important things in the world. Without it no human could exist. So keep it up Mohawks! Love, Ss'fVYAQ-¥ 164 THE ALMA MATER f The halls of Mound resound with pride For its honor we will fight A nd none can hide that his hopes ride With the colors red and white j£ Your heart is ours, your warmth we claim We love your spirit and your name And with your halls no more in sight We'll remember red and white. R. Haddorf wrm 165 MAY I HAVE Well, here it is. It’s hard to believe that we finally finished. Even though it took many hours of our time, that could have been spent doing homework etc. , we feel that putting together this yearbook was very rewarding. Please remember when looking at this book that some pictures may not mean much to you but to others are special. Also, when you look back on this book in future years you may realize just how important your high school years were. We worked hard, but we couldn’t have done it without the help that we received. We would like to thank Ralph Knox, Robin Bandel, Linda Theisen, Marc Anderson, Jackie Christenson, Lee Sunn, Debbie Alexander. Maylon Deeds, Karen Gustafson, Julie Thorsen, Brig Celms, Deb Nordblom, Norrie Conkley, and also Scherling Pletsch Studios. A special thanks to Mr. Muth for putting up with us on deadline days. We hope you will enjoy this book now and in the years to come. So long, (co-editors) 168 SENIO ANDERSEN. DIANE - 18; AFS 11 ANDERSON.
