This is a typical question for an A.F.S. student from Columbia to be asked. But these are not exactly the best things in my country. We have a good kind of people. This is also what I discovered when I came to America and Mound. I don't think I'll ever forget this year. It wasn't easy but you all helped me with my English and I helped some people with their Spanish. In Columbia, I lived in the mountains and every season was the same. But I sure found another season when I came here. WINTER! And what a winter. But I loved playing in the snow, and afterwards, the beautiful spring and watching the white lake turn into the beautiful waves of Lake Minnetonka. Thank you for letting me come, and 1 wish luck to all the future A.F.S. students and you. BONJOUR, People always ask me what I miss the most about not being in France. The bread and the wine! But to me, the people here are just as nice as in France or in any pan of the world. We, foreigners, have a certain idea about Americans. They all have cameras, wear tennis shoes, and chew gum. But I found this to be completely untrue. I like America and I really appreciate being able to come to Mound to live and to learn. It takes a cenain amount of heart to accept a student from another country into their school. And I feel Mound has it. l? A third shows my hairline an almost not there line, A fourth looks as though I had dozed; A fifth might suffice had I followed advice. And decided to keep my mouth closed. Well, here is the last, and it’s quite unsurpassed. The features and character strike me. I’m highly impressed, hut as you might have guessed. The unemployment rate, which had been surprisingly stable in recent months, jumped a staggering four-tenths of a percentage point in September, to S.8 per cent of the labor force—as 450,000 new names joined the jobless rolls. Mary took 1st on Beam, 2nd in Vaulting, 1st on Bars, and First All Around in Districts. In Regions she took 1st in Beam and 2nd All Around . . . and at STATE - she placed 3rd All Around and made it to finals in Beam, although she didn't place in Beam. Mary is a fine example to any upcoming girl athletes. PATTY MAHONEY We all recognize this familiar face of Patty Mahoney. Patty also went to state this year. In Districts she placed 6th in Bars and 4th in Vaulting. In Regions she took 1st in Vaulting and 4th in Bars. At state, Patty was in the finals of Vaulting but she failed to place. Still -it’s quite an achievement! This is the first year ANY Mound gymnasts have gone to state - keep it up girls! 168 GO TO ST A TEH Brad Chapman went to state! Brad Chapman went to state! That’s all wc heard in school when tournament time for the wrestlers came around. Brad is only a junior this year and we have high hopes for next year too. Brad's overall record was 25-3. He took 2nd in Districts, 3rd in Regions, and although he lost his first state match, we're proud of him! 1964 was the last time a Mound wrestler went to state - Brad went this year - and hopefully next year will sec us there again. Thanks Brad. MOUND GRAPPLER BRAD CHAPMAN 169 THANKS CHRISTIE! A lot of limes our majorettes don't get the recognition they deserve. A lot of work goes into being a majorette and it's an important job. So - this page is especially dedicated to senior Chris Sandler, who has practiced over and over again to lead our band on the field these past 3 years. To add to the beauty, this year - junior Kim McIntyre and sophomore Wendy Demonchaux accompanied Chris in her baton act. Thanks again for a job well done! ALMA MATER e halls of Mound resound with pride r its honor we will fight d none can hide that his hopes ride ith the colors red and white r - c our heart is ours, your warmth we claim We love your spirit and your name And with your halls no more in sight her red and white. b — 171 REMEMBERING GOOD TIMES AND GOOD FRIENDS . . . 172 I •I Brought to You by . . . 1975 MOHIAN STAFF: FRONT ROW (L-R): Kerry McKinney, Janet Havland - Editor, Photographer.
