Manuel Macias, Harry Bockhaus and Edward Behmler In Memory of Manuel Lotto” Macias who was Spanish instructor from 1957 to 1973 and Wrestling coach from 1957 to 1967 at Mound Sr. High School. Senor as he was called by his students, did much to promote and develop the foreign language dept, at Mound. He not only taught his students the mechanics of speaking another language but tried to make them aware of cultures ond societies outside their own country. Senor Macias will be sadly missed by his fellow teachers and the community. Hopefully his memory and ideals will be carried on by the many students and lives he touched throughout his teaching ond coaching careers. We wish to thank Horry Bockhaus for his interest and concern for the students during his 30 years of teaching in Mound. Mr. Bockhaus came to Mound in 1944 where he started his teaching career in Industrial Arts. He also was a Wrestling Coach from 1944 — 1956. He had a record of 7 Regional Champions, 5 District Champions and one State Champion in 1947. In 1956 he also had a runner up in State, plus many individual State Champions. From all the students and faculty Thank You Mr. Bockhaus. Edward J. Behmler, better known to us as E. J. came to Mound in the fall of 1938. He served as a coach of basketball and baseball and assisted in football besides his teoching on the staff. In 1943 he left us to serve in the Navy, but returned to the halls of Mound in '46. When the need came for a counselor in 1952, E.J. was appointed. In 1959 when Mr. Julsrud retired from his job of Principal, Mr. Beh-meler took over and hos remained for 15 years. We really thank Mr. Behmler for all that he has contributed to our school and will miss him greatly. )9 s CONCERT CHOIR: ROW 11 L. to R.-. T. Kolol, R. VandeVegte, D. Sofher, J. Alton, L. Rmgsred, J. The group also participated in rehearsals with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Symphony. Members of the orchestra have entered the Minnesota State Music Festivals and have consistently received A ratings for solos and ensembles. This year Mound's Chamber Orchestra was selected to perform in the High School String Orchestra Festival held at the University of Minnesota on March 2. It is a combination of rythmic stroking and stunts. The stroking can be any regular swimming stroke done in such a way as to make it look os clean and graceful as possible. The stunts include anything from a simple ballet leg to a flamingo. Each year the team begins by several weeks of practicing stroking and learning new stunts. Then the routines for the spring show are written and the rest of the year is spent perfecting these routines. The finale of the year is the show in early May. 40 41 The Class of '76 Looks Ahead CLASS OFFICERS: Ted Mansk, Edgarlynn Krotzer, Holly Roelofs, Robert Englund. I went to Mound Westonka for a full year. Like you I sneaked through the halls without a pass and like you I skipped my classes and went to the boy's room instead. I know you now — your good and your bad sides. And let me tell you one thing. No matter what anybody says about the United States, I love it here. I love my family the Englunds, the kids at School, my friends, even the teachers, and the rest of you. The United States is not only made up of fifty states, but more important, it is mode up of 200 million people. And that’s why I love to be here. ROMAN BAUXBAUM 105 Hi everyone! It's really been a . . . Hey Ali — have you ever seen a kangaroo? Do you hove one for a pet? Wowl Those things are something with those whatchemecallits — pouches. That's how an A.F.S. student from Australia begins a year in America. I was forewarned that kangaroos would be a typical conversation, but I never imagined the extent that it has been. Well, as I was saying, before being interrupted, it's really been a wonderful year in Mound. Something about you all makes living 8,000 miles from home seem so easy. It’s been fun sharing the good times and the not so good ones with you, especially with my family the Easthouses. Someday, I hope to make it back here. Your Aussie friend always — ALI My name is Thien Em Morrison, but my friends call me Young. I have lived in the United States for eighteen months. I am looking forward to becoming an American citizen in three more years. I came to the United States on August, 18, 1973, from a city a little larger than Mound. I lived about 265 miles south of Saigon. I like school very much and I'm very happy to be living in the United States. I think thot most people in the United States are very nice and I'm anxious to meet more people ond make new friends. YOUNG i 106 '« When I got to the Minneapolis airport, I was very nervous from a long tiring trip, but I was very excited because many things were unknown to me. At first I was not thinking of going to high school while visiting the United States, but I decided to come to Mound Westonka High School so I could stay here longer. I feel so fortunate to have spent part of my life here as it has been a super great experience getting to know so many people. Although I have limited use of the English language, I have met many new and wonderful people and done many things with them. I am very thankful to the Erickson's for making it possible for me to stay in Mound to finish the school year. Peace on Earth. JUNKO KOZUKA 107 108 109 No this rWer don'+ ao io Ain+ree !
