“
Gentle do I leave you, lake, Now because I fear you'll wake, And then my heart will probably stay This way I take it with me. You won't know it, till I've gone, But on your banks I'll leave a song; And when you finally can forgive, Perhaps—you'll try to sing it. You must always forget your pain, Within your oceans, rivers, rain, You'll still be here when I'm gone-.. . But I will leave a song. B. I to r (back) Diane, Mrs. Romness, Dr. Romncss, David, (front) Eve-Marie and Mary. We Meet Eve I was so excited when I knew last July that I would leave France in August to spend a whole year in Mound, Minnesota. This trip and stay here was my strongest wish and desire, because I love to travel, live another way of life and meet a lot of people. Even my enthusiasm and excitement could not have made me guess how great the year I spent here could be! One of the greatest experiences was to live with a new family, the Romnesses. They were so wonderful. I had so much fun and shared with them many experiences of family life including a ski trip to Colorado. I hope to see them soon in Paris. The other great thing I will never forget was the life at school. The school here was different from French Schools, but I loved it because of all its activities, the games and the famous Spirit of Mound High School which is great and I hope that you'll stay well known for your school spirit. I had many new experiences like the cold weather, skiing which I enjoyed very much, eating French toast and French dressing and many other things typical of the American way of life. I want to thank everybody, my new friends, teachers and especially my family for having made this year the greatest and most unforgettable year of my life. I will always remember Mound and all of the nice, friendly and helpful people that I met here and I will miss all of you so much when I go back. I hope to see all of you again. 51 Eve enjoys a sliding party with friend . Eve-Marie Bonneau 8EST DRESSED: Debbie Estenson and Scott Suerth. The first fund-raising activity was selling ice cream which took place during Crazy Days. In the fall the Junior Class sponsored the play, The Mouse That Roared. The class officers selected oval rings and they were ordered at the beginning of the year. The final activity for the Juniors was the supporting of the Junior-Senior Prom with money raised chiefly through soc-hops throughout the year. A Lot of Work For Many Rewards Mohian Putting out a yearbook takes many hours of after school work. The basic steps in putting a page together are: making a rough draft on layout paper, finding pictures, writing headlines and copy, reproducing it on a copy sheet, sending the sheets to the printing company, and waiting for the finished product—the annual. The editor and her staff put in a lot of hard work to produce a better than ever yearbook with a few laughs and memories like: Basketball scores in the place of football scores, missing pictures and pages, lost copy and memory, deadlines, etc. This year's section dividers featured pictures taken on Lake Minnetonka. The Mohawk on the cover was designed by Mary Palmer. 122 Peggy how Lori how to uie the camera. Mr. Myth is always on hand to give advice. Duane gives his ideas on the Sports Section. The Ability to Publish Creative Articles The Smoke Signal The Smoke Signal had an active editor behind it this year. It was delivered to the student body every six weeks. The staff took the Smoke Signal to a seminar on high school newspapers sponsored by the Minneapolis Tribune, and came back with some drastic changes. The look was improved, the news updated, and the articles began to show top quality writing. Another idea the Smoke Signal editor introduced was the Dateline Page. It's an independent sheet published between Smoke Signals to inform the students of the news when it is current and fresh. The Smoke Signal staff was under the guidance of its editor—Dana Chabot, and advisor Mr. Mc-Hale. 124 9moke Signal Staff Smoke Signal editor, Dana Chabot, cauhgt in a moment of deep thought. Their lighted batons' routine was one of the highlights of the Homecoming festivities. Many hours of practicing are put into their performances as the group does their own choreography for their routines. Rehearsals take place during sixth hour band, after school, and also sometimes in the evening. The Majorettes have been very busy this year, giving that little added touch to many performances throughout the year. The girls planned their own routines to be used at the various games, often introducing them at Friday pep fests. Under the guidance of co-captains Pat Hunt and Sally Pedersen, the Drill Team performed at football games, basketball games, and were present at most of the hockey games. In the fall they sponsored a garage sale. They also attended a Drill Team clinic at Fridley High School. The dress code was abolished, a Student-Faculty Committee was formed for better communication between teachers and students, and the changing of the tardy policy. I hope this Mohian, in the years to come, can bring back some of these great memories. •I'd like to thank all the people who sacrificed their own time to produce this annual. Thank you Senior Editors and Assistant Editor for doing an excellent job on your pages and for training the Junior Editors for next year. Thank you Junior Editors for your willingness to learn and eagerness to work. Thank you Mary Palmer for your spectacular art work on the cover as well as throughout ths book. I'd like to thank Faith and Ginny for all their extra needed help and a special thanks to all my photographers: Lori, Debbie, Kevin, and especially Kent, Mr. Muth, and Haga Studio. An extra special thanks to you, Mr. Muth, for your excellent guidance, your great patience and good nature no matter what happened. Thank you everyone and I hope this yearbook will reward your work throughout this past year. Mound Track Team Wins Race for a Good Season The highlight of the track season was the winning of the Mound Relays. It was a come-from-behind victory and a team effort that made our season a great success. In twelve varsity track meets the team ran against ninety-five schools in which they outscored forty-three of them. The track squad was led in scoring by Co-Captain Steve Coleman, who was also the top sprinter. He set three school records: the 100 yard dash in 9.9 seconds, 440 in 50.3 seconds and 220 in 2.15. Terry Bender and Co-Captain Daryl Krueger were team leaders in distance and running. They also broke school records: Krueger—2 mile run in 10.2 and Bender—1 2 mile run in 2.04.3. Under the coaching of Miss Recker, Girls track had a very successful beginning year. The 20 girls participated in three meets Coon Rapids placing 4th out of 7 schools at Cooper, and came in 2nd at Minnetonka. They lost by one point to Minnetonka. The energetic girls are looking forward to a fuller year of competition next season. Hal Wood was the team's leading hurdler and finished second for the team in scoring. B., a very successful businessman with a beautiful wife and large family, feels that his position has been earned, and when he loses everything, he asks: Why— what have I done? This drama seeks to provide an answer to all people that love is the basis for life. Taking place in a circus tent, two unsuccessful actors take advantage of the empty arena to play J. B. as J.
