Happiness is summer vacation. The basic mechanics of sentence structure, writing, vocabulary and literature were the main ureas of study in English 10. English II was a continuation of this with the emphasis on American Literature, in English 12, the year’s work was huilt around English literature with an added stress on composition. To further improve their writing skills, many students look the semester course in pre-college composition. The Independent Study Program, in which the student studied outside the classroom, was adopted experimentally. Speech I and II. both semester courses, emphasized the importance of fluent oral communication. The use of a set of “telephones” made conversational practice more life-like. The rapidly expanding library with its 7.500 volumes was indispensable to all areas of study. All students found much information and enjoyment on the shelves of fiction, non-fiction, reference materials and periodicals. James Jackson . . . English 12. College Composition . . . Behind fhe 9cene The people behind the scenes were the people that kept Mound High School running smoothly and efficiently. The custodians were responsible for keeping Mound High clean and in running order. The kitchen staff was responsible for preparing lunch for all the hungry people here. The office staff was in charge of keeping our records straight, keeping track of absences and tardiness, and a million other details that are so necessary in running a school. The nurse, who was the advisor of a newly formed Red Cross Club, had an attractive office where the students could come for medical assistance and emergencies. Marian lJn |ui !.
