We will all remember Pete as a friend eager to help with the countless everyday problems of a high school. Born in the Danish sector of Schleswig-Holstein, he attended school in Denmark until the eighth grade. Pete served in the German army until 1918. As a sailor of the Danish fleet, Pete came to America in 1919. Here he married his wife. Rose, in 1923. Pete served his country in the US Navy from 1942 until 1945. He received battle citations as a member of the beach battalions at Okinawa, Iwo Jima, and the Philippines. Pete’s most often quoted statement about the high school: There arc exceptionally good kids at Mound. Foreword It is the men and women, boys and girls so poured in and out all day that give the building a soul of dreams and thoughts and memories.
