Like all newcomers, frightened at hrst, you hunted your way to classes, popping up in English class or Algebra when you should have been in Religion, rushing through a twenty-five minute lunch period and discovering which stairs lead where. But you made it, even lived through initiation, and now you are beginning to get into the swing of things. Mission Days were a new and exciting experience, providing fun for all. Then exams came, but that was a serious topic. While on your retreat you petitioned Our Lord for many favors, maybe for better grades in the next exams. The climax came and school spirit soared to great heights e your candidate for May Fete Queen . . . Will she be the chosen one? Yes, the memories of your first high school year are many and varied, something to he kept and treasured for a lifetime. Jean Feller dances to good old rag-time swing as the Melody Maids play. During the Sacrifice of the Mass, the retreatants become imbued with the serious but the serene spirit of the retreat. This spirit is obviously evident in the spiritual exercises which are offered by each individual. Joy at the end of a retreat well made is unlike any other happiness found at Mother of Mercy High. Some Enchanted Evening The traditional refrain. nO Mary wc crown thee with blossoms todayf! is sung as Carol Kolks, in the presence of M. Rudemiller, S. Nieman, N. Frey, C. Nordman, C. Cerding and C. Powell, crowns our Blessed Lady Queen of the Angels and Queen of May. Bring Flowers of the Rarest Rosaries in hand, crowned with flowered wreaths, and with their hearts and their voices lifted to God, the seniors walk in procession through the winding pathways which lead to the shrine. There they present their wreaths to Our Blessed Mother. Reverently and lovingly, juniors, sophomores and freshmen present their own special little bouquet of fragrant, multicolored posics. This gift, on this very solemn and special occasion, adorns Our Blessed Lady as she is crowned Queen of the May. Seniors again pledge loyalty to Mary by reciting their Act of COnsecration. This prayer followed by Father Carl Lizza7s address in honor of Mary brings to an appropriate close a memorable day. Carol Kolks arranges the crown on Our Lady as S. Nieman, N. Frey, M. Kolks, C. Nordmau and G. Gerding 100k on. Looking in the mirror Roberta Baechlc and Barbara Bravard meditate memories of high school at D'Iercy. Class Graduate Barbara Cook makes a last visit to Mercyis chapel. - 152- Every Senior Class always looks to the glittering goal of graduation. A senior anticipates graduation with mixed emotions 7 sorrow upon leaving a school that is loved? but, at the same time, happiness because she may launch into the World of Promise. There is a desire to retain the close friendships which were a part of school life g friendships which will continue to develop after graduation. Elation and joy mingle with tears and good-byes as the Class of 761 pledges its undying loyalty. Graduates from the ,61 class turn their hearts to God while meditating upon four years at Mercy and anxiously awaiting their future, willing to greet whatever career lies ahead. Pat Gilmore, Kathy Nickel, Kathy Meents and Bonnie Bouck pray for the grace to guide them through the Gates of Life. Pledges Loyalty at Graduation Graduates Pat Spicer, Alice Neu, and Julie Mooney dream about days gone by in their four years at their Alma Mater. Parting is such sweet sorrow for graduates, Dottie Kramer, Roberta Baechle, and Barbara Bravard as they say farewell to freshmen, Marilyn McCarthy, Judy Haley, Patsy Hines. I -153- For you . . .
