XIATH BLEND IN HARMONY Sailing boats may be a little boy pastime but it can become a serious problem in Algebra II class. Kay Spitzmiller carefully reads the problem tor Nancy Spicer as Joanne Kathman and Barbara Gooding, with a pointer in her hand, interpret their graph. From Fahrenheit to centigrade and then back again go the basic math students Donna Massman, Harriet Lachtrup, Carol Hemsteger. Bisecting an angle is a simple process for Marilyn Torbeck and Mary Mahoney who don't go around in circles in geometry class. A minus times a minus makes a plus - c.p.c.t. - theorem 378. Confused? So are the minds of the bewildered Mercy Mathematicians plunging their way through algebra I 81 II, geometry and trig. Through mathematics, however, they are learning to understand the world in which we live. In redecorating a room, in making a good home-made pie, in tiguring a bowling score, yes, and in typing a letter, knowledge of math is essential. 27
