McLaughlin leaps high tor the ball in the Haggerty Tournament. Brennan tbl and McGraw 138i are ready to take it over. BASKETBALL ISPLAYING a blend of excellent teamwork and expert coaching, the Tiger quintet had one of the most promising season openings in years. But injuries and player losses broke the magic formula and the team slipped down into fourth place in league competition, ending the season with a total of fourteen wins against seven losses. Cook McLoughlin, who mer- ited a coveted place on the All Scholastic team, was high scorer of the season with l97 points. Treetop Brennan scored l86 points from all angles on the pivot line. Captain Ed McGraw, our Most Valuable player, scored l39 points. H.T.--29 De La SALLE-27 The Tigers scored their first non-league triumph by defeating De La Salle 29-27 in a thrilling game. H. T.--29 XAVI ER--23 Trinity held the lead by a large margin for the first three quarters, but they found plenty of opposition in the final stanza. H. T.-40 POLY TECH J. V.--24 The tigers easily trounced the Poly Tech J. V. McLaughlin and Brennan shared the scoring honors. H. T.-39 ST. FRANCIS--32 Showing real team spirit the Tigers edged out St. Francis in the last quarter of a furi- ously fought league opener. H. T.--47 ST. MlCHAEL'S-29 Connie the Cook cooked up nineteen points as the Tigers easily beat St. Michael's. H. T.--41 ALUMNI--32 Trinity's Varsity triumphed over a substitu- tion ridden Alumni team. Larry Diebner won the pre-game foul shooting contest. H. T.-38 ST. BENEDlCT'S, Newark-33 Coming from behind to tie the score at 27-all in the third quarter, the Tigers forged ahead and finally beat the New Jersey team. H. T.-30 ST. JOHN'S PREP-50 St. John's upset Trinity in their third league tiit by a large margin though the score was close until more Tigers went out on fouls in the final quarter. H. T.--31 LOUGHLIN-25 The Tigers bounced back from defeat to overcome a fighting Loughlin five. H.T.-37 ST. AUGUSTINE'S--42 Big Tom again led the scoring with four- teen points but to no avail as the Tigers lost to the Lancers 37-42. COACH MR. FRANK KEEGAN Varsity Basketball Varsity Baseball Cook McLaughlin makes an easy lay-up against Rice in the K. of C. Tournament. Big Tom Brennan runs into diffi- culty in that famous second game with St. Francis. Fitz FitzGcrald making a hook shot against St Johns Tsk, tsk, who's shoving?
