'l' llE 'I' llllllllllllL INCE it is our duty to bring our world closer to Christ, we must learn the meaning of responsibility. For this purpose Holy Trinity has instituted the Student Council. It gives stu- dents the opportunity to represent their classes in a democratic meeting and to put forth their ideas for the betterment of the school. lt is composed of the presidents and specially elected representatives of all the classes. This term it operated under the able leadership of Bro. Michael Robl. The student officers of the Council are: Thomas Brennan, president, John McManus, vice-president, and Frank Haas, secretary. lt numbers among its accomplishments the banning of foreign monograms around the school, the adoption of volley- ball intramurals, proposals to hold a Tom Brennan, the peopIe's cherce, pres- ident of the Student Senior Day and establish track and rifle teams at the school. Through this vital organ students express their wants in a democratic manner and young men are so prepared to bear the obligation of responsibility. J. Cleary reports to a committee of the Student Council made up of J. McDermott, W. Harley, W. Lewis, J. McSherry, and W. John McManus, cham- pion orator, winner of the diocesan-wide PUBLIC PEAKI ll OR a better tomorrow Catholic men are needed to speak their minds and bring to the world the principles of Christ. Without these ideals, the task of making our world Christ's would be impossible, The training of young men for this task begins in high school. At Trinity, a school contest is held semi-annually to determine the most promising young orator. Candidates are selected by competition in the various classes. This year, John McDermott won first place in the contest, Trinity also takes part in interscholastic oratory competi- tion. This year John McManus and Donald Zoeller represented the Blue and White in a zone contest with St. Agnes and St. Leonard's High Schools. This was followed by the finals of the Bishop's Public Speaking Contest in Bishop's Public Speak- ing Contest. which all the winners of the zones of the diocese compete. This year it was Trinity's honor to have one of her candidates, John McManus, win the zone competition and go on to capture first place in the finals. Fr. Louis congratulates J. McDermott, winner of the scihool's oratorical contest as the other partici- pants look on. They are F. McGrath, J. Cleary, J. McManus, D. Hoeg, D. Zoeller, J. Clifford, and H. Rossman.
