f V P. S. From The Editor We've written, typed, cut and pasted--spent many tiresome after-school hours in an effort to make this the most interesting yearbook you've ever looked through. A model for those annuals yet unprinted, we leave this at Holy Name. In working, there were impatient words , trifling arguments, confused notes and misplaced copy to add to the difficulty of a broken typewriter and an overdue photograph. It was a time when nerves should have been, but weren' t , up to the rush. Everyone was work- ing overtime--unselfishly cooperating with the adviser and editor to give you a few pleasurable moments as you skim through these sheets. Amid headaches, confusion and fun we put the Merc ian Yearbook together. Getting the third anniversary issue in page form came as an adventure. Together with the headache of last-minute cuts , we found the confusion of an unidentified print and a lost proof. There was never an idle instant. Unwarned, we faced the surprises with uncertainty, never having enough time to be concerned by their unusual circumstances. We did appreciate a few precious seconds of humor, though. These seemed to come just as the last clean scrap of paper was blackened, and the nearest drug store wasn't near enough to get more. Just as we had squandered the Lord' s quota of patience , a casual remark from a witty reporter would break the tension and we , a weary staff , paused for a refreshing laugh. Now that it's over, our job doesn't seem to have been as exhausting as we had thought it would be. Of course, this is meant as no encouragement for the future editor and staff, for them waits an unexplored adventure. We can say, though, editing a yearbook combines fun together with work. It was an unequaled pleasure to present this Mercian Yearbook to you 3 we hope you were pleased with its contents. A journalism instructor, an editor, two associates, and a willing staff have put their thoughts between two covers, hoping you found the enjoyment printed there . f6lif'7'VV ' f rs ETH, R 1,9-
