BASKETBALL HIC Nlossyrock basketball team didn't bring home any honors this year or perform any glorious feats. but in the face of defeat it did buckle down for everything that was in the game and lost by close margins and with a smile. Out of the eight games played, two were victories. both with Randleg 36 to I2 and 33 to 19. The rest were defeats, but the opponents fought for all they got. This season's outcome was due chiefly to lack of experienced players. This year's games gave a number of boys some good practice and experience which should prove valuable next year. Both juniors and sophomores promise good material, and Coach Clehrke predicts an improved team within the next two years. Three first string men are lost as seniors. They are Perkins. Schwartz. and Adams, the latter being the Yiking's high point man for the season. The Nlossyrock second team deserves honorable mention for their playing this year. Out of the eight games played Con the league schedule of the first teaml six were victories, one tied with Onalaska and one defeat by Morton with only at one-point margin. Don Davis was high point man on the second string. ranking next in line to Adams. Yerne Perkins, Elmer Pries and Harold Hilton also played on the second string. Those four soon proved their metal and were raised to the first string squad. lt is not definite as to just who is to fill the exact positions next year. This, as a matter of form, will depend on the development of the individual player. Page Nineteen

FOOTBALL BOACH GEHRKE coached the Mossyrock football squad through the most successful season that Mossyrock has seen for several years. Out oflfive games played, three were Wong all by wide margins. The first game was lost to Pe Ell, 13 to 6, on the Mossyrock field. It was a piece of bad luck for the Vikings, they just missed scoring a second time by inches. In the second game the Vikings walked over Toledo, 25 to 6, on the latter's field. Next Mossyrock played host to Adna and trounced them 47 to 6. VVinlock fell the next easy victim on her own field 40 to 6 to the Mossyrock eleven. In the last game played with Onalaska on the Mossyrock gridiron, the Viking line went in a slump and in spite of scoring first, the game was lost to Onalaska 30 to 14. Out of the first eleven, four seniors are lost: Snodgrass, Severns, G. DeGross, and Adams. Adams made a majority of Mossyrock's touchdowns and performed some excellent running plays. DeGross played in the half-back position and Snod- grass was on the line. Severns, because of a leg injury, did not play the whole .season, but did play the whole of the Onalaska game. Coach Gehrke did good work building up his team and gave the boys many new plays that were yardage gainers for Mossyrock. Next year, eight of the main string will be back and there is good material present in that group. A Weak line and some formation to take the place of Adam's running are the two ,main problems of the coach. I Page Eighteen

GIRLS' BASKETBALL G:lITlHlf Yiking squad, coached by Miss Redmond, was made up of a group of girls who were full of fight. Xlossyrock began its season playing eight games, winning two and losing six. Two court basketball was played this year, instead of three court. This method proved to be more successful because the girls were allowed more freedom. The following girls played on the first team. Forwards: Dora Collins, Lanora Collins, Wanda Hummel, Beatrice Sawyer, Bernice Adkins. Guards: lVIona Mil- ler. hlae Sawyer, Yirginia hlartin, Lotus Thompson, and Thelma England. Because of the large number of girls turning out, a second team was or- ganized. The girls who played on this squad Were: Evelyn Sprague, VVilma Kelly, Louzena Metzker, Carol Brannon, Frances Wright, Bessie Vlfilson, Helen Hanger, Alma Sherman, Irene Smetzler, and hflary Hensley. Interclass games were played this year. The seniors Won the championship and sophomores took second place. juniors and freshmen tied for third place. GIRLS' LEAGUE I Hli first Girls' League meeting was called to order by the adviser of the Girls' League, Miss Lindstrom. The freshmen girls and new girls were welcomed and made members of the league. The following officers were elected for the year: President, Delia Mchlurryg vice-president, Vl'ilma Kelly, secretary, Isobel Swigert. One of the projects sponsored by the league was the pie sales held on several days. These sales proved to be very profitable. Another means for raising funds was the faculty dinners held the first Monday of each month. The girls also had .several shoe-shine days. The hlothers and Daughters' Banquet held lN Iay 7 was a big success. The mothers of the boys as well as those of the girls were invited. The program con- sisted of the following numbers: Vl'elcome address, by lN'Iary Hensley, lN'Iothers, Return, by hlrs. Swigertg a song, by Lorna Brannon, Isobel Swigert and Carol Brannon, a trumpet trio, song by girls' chorus, and two skits. Ns
