10 1982 GROWLER DEDICATION: Dr. Evalyn Burkltt has been our princlpal for two years. and we are all very fortunate to have some- one thls hard-worklng, dedlcated. carlng, and falr. The most amazlng fact Is that somehow everyone ls aware of thls . . . students and faculty alike! When she became our prlnclpal, she became the flrst female prlnclpal of MPHS. and the only female prlnclpal of a hlgh school In Mlsslsslppl. These are a matter of record; what she really became . . . was the leader of 1,500 students, 90 teachers, a mllllon obllgatlons, and responslbllltles. Dr. Burkltt came to us prepared. She recelved her BA from the Unlv. of Miss., her Masters from USA. and her PHD ln education admlnlstratlon from the Unlv. of So. Mlsslsslppl. Before she came here. she was a teacher In Mem- phls, Tenn., Mlneral Wells ngh School, Texas, and Pascagoula ngh. She was secondary language coordlnator for the Pas. school district, and later became Asslstant prlnclpal for Pas Jr. High. Dr. Burkltt also had experience In the us. Army and U.S. Dept. of Defense In Germany. Dr. Burkltt has been an excellent principal. She understands teachers' problems because she Is a former teacher. Only a teacher can understand a teacher. Because she ls compassionate, students have learned to respect her, as well as go to her with their problems, academic as well as personal. Ev- eryone will agree. that she only asks you to do your best and to try to help her make this a school we can all be proud of. When God created leaders among us, we were most fortunate to have been blessed.
