She represented the school in Girls' State and is an active member of the Tiger Flash staff, Beta Club, Student Council and Science Club. At the close of the football season, she was cho- sen as Football Queen by the players because of her energetic and enthusiastic support of the team. She was chosen to two positions in the Who's Who election, which included Most Likely to Succeed and Best Dressed. We salute this outstanding member of the Hall of Fame. Di Colmer has served as cheerleader of the mighty Tiger team for three years, which is indicative of her active participation. She is also an active member of Y-Teens, Growler staff and Beta Club. She did a fabulous job in the talent di- vision at the Beta Club convention when she and the Beta Balladeers brought recognition to Moss Point High School. Her personality and school spirit have brought her the honor of being a member of the Hall of Fame. 1967 Hall Because of his quality of leadership exemplified in the excellent way he served in the positon of Stu- dent Body President, Jimmy Hannaford has been chosen as a member of the 1967 Hall of Fame. In addition to his being a leader, he is also an accomplished musician and was chosen as a mem- ber of the Mississippi Lions All-State Band and as a member of the United States of America Band. His friendliness and sincerity have won him the respect and admiration of the entire student body, which made it possible for him to win the highest honor in the Who's Who contest, Mr. Moss Point High School. 26 An accomplished musician who served for two years as drum major of the mighty Tiger Band is nur Hall of Fame member Chester Harvey. His versatility is indicated by the fact that he took an active part in two musicals, two plays, two carnival balls and served as an officer in many clubs throughout his high school years. Wherever there is work, Chester is there doing more than his share which was exemplified in the excellent job that he did as business manager of the Growler. His leadership and ambition gained him a great deal of recognition both in and out of school. He was awarded the Elks Leadership Award and a medal for his scout work by Governor Paul John- son. Realizing his great devotion and his ability to ex- col in many activities, the student body elected him as Mr. Tiger Spirit and Most Talented. leading our great Tiger football team in a very impressive manner throughout the season, Doug llassell represented the school well as he directed the team to an 8-1-1 record. His winning the Red Carpet Sportsmanship trophy is indicative of his great athletic ability. Politeness, friendliness and strong character have made him a favorite with all the students. He was elected to Who's Who every year throughout high school with the final honor being elected as Friend- liest and Most Versatile. All of these have made Doug Hassell a 1967 Hall of Fame winner. Kathy Bodden and Rhonda Ehlers, and in gratefully acknowledge their tremendous dedication and hours of endless work that Wave made this annual a success. Working with them has been a very enjoyable exper- ence and has convinced me that Moss Point High School is truly great when it has wraduates who possess the characteristics of leadership, loyalty and helpfulness in the High degree that these possess them. These characteristics have enabled them to be wrcipients of many honors and awards both in and out of school. Kathy Bodden is a vivacious senior, who has not only contributed greatly to the school but also did an excellent job of representing the school on the state level with her participation in the Junior Miss Pageant in Meridian. Her winning smile and Charming personality have caused her to be elected to many offices in Who's Who, including the highest office, Miss Moss Point High School. Rhonda Ehlers has exemplified the qualities of dependability, intellect, leadership aid conscientiousness as co-editor of the Growler. In addition to doing excellent work this position, she has done a tremendous amount of work as an officer in the Y- cens and Beta Club and as secretary of the Senior Class. She was elected by an over- 161111ng majority to represent the Senior class in the Carnival Ball and was chosen an alternate in the Junior Miss Pageant. With her ability to excel in so many varied a: as, she was very appropriately chosen as Most Talented in the Who's Who election. 53 Class Of 68 NOT PICTURED 56 Allen, Glenda Allen, Mary Ann Almond, Paula Amacker, Mackie Amonett, Carolyn Anglin, Dianne Ardoin, Eric Bailey, Alice Bartlett, Gary Blackledge, Eddie Bond, Michael Bowman, Jeanette Boyd, Sandra Breland, Charles Breland, Mabrey Briley, James Broadus, Donna Broome, Thomas Brown, Jackie A. Power, speed, and passing would give the Moss Point Tigers their best all- around backfield in several years. However, Coach Holmes knew that the defense would be a question mark in the Tigers' bid for a successful season. The coaches knew that if the breaks would go for the Tigers instead of against them as had been the case in recent years, Moss Point could make a serious bid for the South Big Eight Championship. 112 Although predictions proved favorable towards the Tigers, there still was some doubt as to what the seasonal out- come would be. But with the team effort, the constant pre-season practice, and a determined squad, the Tigers brought back the team into the running by finishing fifth in the state and having the most successful season Moss Point has ever had! Tigers Open Season With A 23-21 Upset Over Hattz'esburg The Tiger defense reached its heighth that '66 year. Captains John Lindsay Marty Scott On September 9, 1966, the mighty Ti- gers made an impressive beginning by completely dominating the game until the final minutes when Hattiesburg scored two touchdowns to make the game Close. After recovering a fumble on the Hattiesburg 20, the Tigers scored in the first quarter when James crashed through for the touchdown. Shattles faked a kick for the PAT, but Hassell passed to Miller for the extra point. After the Hattiesburg score early in the second quarter, the Tigers drove from their own 27 to the Hattiesburg 24 from where Hassell threw a pass intended for Tanner. The intercepted pass led to a Tiger safety when Tanner tackled the receiver. The Tigers scored late in the second quarter on an 18 yard pass from Hassell to Tanner and again in the fourth when Hassell sneaked in from the one yard line. 113 Tigers Fall To Rugged Oppasz'tz'on Biloxi edges win over the Mighty Tigers 114 The Tigers battled the highly regarded Indians right down to the final whistle in a manner that is not reflected in the score. After Biloxi pushed over for a touchdown in the second quarter, they had to fight off a Tiger Charge that carried to the Indian's nine-yard line to prevent a tie at the end of the half. It wasn't until the Closing minutes of the final quarter that the Indians managed to gain the upper hand with their second touchdown. The final score came on a ninety-four yard run from a pass inter- ception. The second time Moss Point got control of the ball, they swept down the field for 66 yards in 13 plays. Quarterback Roy Dunn got the first six points with a plunge for the end zone from a yard out. The extra point attempt was no good. After a Wildcat fumble on their own 41, the Tigers marched on for a touchdown in 12 plays with Bruce James going over for the score. Shattles added the PAT. With the Wildcats fumbling again three plays later, the Tigers took over on the Columbia 45 yard line and Roy Dunn picked up his second touchdown on a 22 yard run. The PAT was blocked. With the Wildcats attempting to punt on their own 17, the Tigers poured through the line and took the ball on the nine yard line. In three plays Hassell went into the end zone and Shattles kicked the PAT. Vikings Are Unable T0 Tame The Tigers After Columbia's only touchdown in the third quarter, the Tigers finished the game in fine style when James smashed through from five yards out. Shattles added the extra point. The Tigers took the opening kickoff and marched for a touchdown 0f 75 yards in sight plays as Bruce James plowed !hrough carrying four Vikings into the t-nd zone with him. Moss Point faked a kick for the PAT, but quarterback Doug Hassell threw to full- back Jimmy Miller for what proved to be rhe Margin of Victory. The Vickings touchdown came midway 0f the second period. This ended the scor- ing as both teams faced strong defenses resulting in Moss Point's, having two long drives stalled at the Vikings two yard line. 117 Doug Hassell $5.. wt - W. Steve Renfro Captains Bill Robertson Clarence Jordon Tigers Mop Up The Tide Tigers fight with all their might With the great running ability of Steve Renfro and the skill of the mighty Tigers, Picayune was soundly defeated on their own field as the Ti- gers chalked up their fifth Victory. In the last minutes of the first peri- od, Renfro got the first touchdown on a 21 yard run around end that capped a 47 yard drive in four plays. The attempt for the PAT failed. Early in the second quarter the Ti- gers increased the score as Renfro swept in again for the touchdown from 30 yards out. Shattles kicked the extra point. Several plays later guard Bill Robertson recovered a Tide fumble on their 42 yard line. Bruce James climaxed a seveneplay drive blasting his way through from four yards out. A Tide gamble on fourth down gave the Tigers the ball on the Tide's 42 yard line. With 1:53 remaining, Renfro made his third touchdown on a 17-yard run to end the scoring for the first half. Shattles added the PAT. With second team substitution, the Tigers came through with one touch down in the third quarter after Shattles recovered a fumble on the Tide's 49. In the fourth play Jimmy Miller crashed in from the two yard line, and Shattles added the extra point. The Tigers demonstrated why they are rated among the elite gridiron teams as they triumphed over Jack- son Wingfield. The Tigers went into action immedi- ately during the first minutes of the quarter driving 68 yards for a touch- down. Big Bruce James raced through from nine yards out. The PAT attempt failed. The Tigers also scored the second time they got the ball. Again power- ful James crashed through from a yard out to cap a 59 yard drive. Shattles added the extra point. After a Wingfield threat was stopped on the nine, the Tigers began their 91 yard scoring drive. Quarterback Hassell capped the drive on a one- yard plunge making the score 20-0 after Shattles added his extra point. In the third quarter the Tigers took the ball on the Falcon 46 and went to the 5 with a 12 yard pass from Has- sell to Tanner and a 25 yard gain by speedy Steve Renfro. From the 5 James crashed through and Shattles added the extra point. Miller set up the next Tiger score by intercepting a pass on the Falcon 37. After 9 plays Renfro went in for the score. The Tigers touchdown came in the final quarter after the field was marred with mud and water. The Tigers, moving along the ground, stalled at the six, but Hassell completed a five-yard pass to Tanner. On the next play Hassell sneak- ed in from the one for the score. The PAT was a great example of Hassell's great skill and quick thinking. As Shattles lined up to kick, the ball slipped out of Hassel's hands. The veteran quarterback scooped up the ball and while being chased back by several Panthers, he jumped and threw a pass that was caught by diving Jimmy Miller to tie the score. a On November 25, the Tigers completed a memorable sea- Red carpet Bowl son by participating in the Red Carpet Bowl in Vicksburg, when they were narrowly de- feated by the Murrah Hustangs. Rallies. . . THE 66-67 YEAR AT M.P.H.S. PROVED TO BE THE GREA TEST E VER!!! 167 INUTE... $1 9, $954 We the members of the 1967 Growler Staff, in order to form a more perfect annual, have been through many trials to present these '67 M memories. p4 V393! The 6th period annual editorial staff has suffered through 4 Bassett quite games, 50 Harvey temper tantrums, 13 spastic fits of Addye, and have been harassed by the Tiger Flash Staff daily. We have built up our courage 26 times in order to face Mr. Stauter and have brought the wrath of Miss Manning on us twice for being too bois- terous. We made 5,286 mistakes, 10 long distance phone calls, lost one key, skipped 33 classes, used 47 pencils to the nub, chewed 50 packs of doublemint gum, broke one typewriter, worn out 2 typewriter ribbons, eaten 40 boxes of Cracker Jacks twith toys; sold 2, 880 bars of personal- ized candy, and been grossed out by 5 candy salesman's samples. We've cleaned the Staff room 5 times, broke Mr. Stagg's camera 3 times, peddled concessions at 13 ball games, and taken 534 pictures. To let off steam, we gave ourselves 1 Christmas party, complete with tree, decorations, music, and food; given 3 birthday parties, built and stuffed l giant-size Tiger to humiliate Goula, torn 1, 286 sheets of paper for confetti that we were barred from using, and given one pep rally in honor of John Lindsay in the Staff Room. To provide ourselves nourishment 6th periods, we emptied the trash can 9 times in order to smuggle 43 cokes from the teacher's lounge by Trash Can Express. -x In completion of the 1967 Growler, we Kathy, Rhonda, Addye, Mary, E- and Chester have become immortal enemies from having to cope with 13.51 35 each other in 6th period for 152 school days. f7 33 . xsngter all this displeasure, if you for some odd reason do not like and 3:: i ishyo '67 1efZ.... 5 3 x Q n XVR 168 Babe , JOCK 0. a MJXCVILV' till, KOJ ICILC; f, Ulcga Kt JECVf'LCHLL amid L Ca kOL h wktl , ' th'ki C'LLK 3c kgCu ?I'CCLL.
