Z?aal-efgaf our opener against Tyrone proved an exciting one for 3 quarters, but finally we conceded defeat after being outscored 20 to 10 at the foul line Webb with 17, McCoy with 12 and Mowchan with ll were our high scores Final score Tyrone 64, M J H S 48 A veteran Williamsburg quintet handed the Green Raiders their second successive defeat 63 39 chief point contributors were Webb-18 and Mowchan 14 The third straight loss of the infant season was a heartbreaker as Houston Twp emerged victorious after coming from behind late in the fourth quarter Once again we were out pointed at the foul line Final score 39 34 High scorers were Webb 13 and Mowchan 10 The winning habit was finally started at Weedville as the Green Raiders were triumphant 41 31 Leading scorers were Webb 12 and Mowchan 10 Shooting our highest percentage thus far, the Raiders subdued arch-rival Curwensville 58-45 for our second victory in a row Mowchan lead all scorers with 19, McCoy and Webb were close behind with 18 and 17 respectively For the third win of the season, the Closemen made Jay Twp of Weedville their victim once again by the score of 49-33 Mowchan 18, Lockett 14, and McCoy 13 Win number four in a row went into the record books as the Raiders took the measure of Harmony Joint 53 33 Our leading scorers were Webb 18, Lockett 15, and Mowchan ll Playing at Curwensv11le's dreaded band box, our boys made the comeback of the year, sinkirg the Golden Tide 47 46 After being behind by as much as 16 points, the Raiders started a late uphill climb that re sulted in a well earned victory The fact that the never say die spirit was so evident, we weren't to be denied The in was number five in succession High scorers were Webb 18, Mowchan 13, sixth win in a row was a sweet one as M J P S defeated defending champions B C I on their home floor 63 55 It was an impressive victory because it was such a team effort and also was our first win at Coalport in years Underelassmen Moskel and Bunyak were outstanding with their all around play bacling up our high scorers Webb 18, McCoy ll, Mowchan 10 and Lockett with 8 Reade Twp was to be our next victim as the Green Raiders handily defeated them 58-L4 at Nbuntalndale It has our second league win and seventh straight of the season Webb with 16, Mowchan 13 and McCoy 9, were our chief point makers For our eighth triumph of the campaign we traveled to Harmony Joint and emerged on the long end of a 55 26 score The outstanding feature of the game was the fact that the Raiders held their opponents score less in the first quarter, taking a commanding 15 O lead which they never relinquished The game was played on their new floor which is second to none in the area Leading scorers were Mowchan 15, Webb ll, and Moskel After being behind by 4 points at the end of the first quarter, our determined Raider overtook a stubborn Morris Twp quintet for a well earned 60-49 victory With Webb and Mowchan leading the team in points with 21 and 12 respectively while McCoy with ll and Lockett with ll contributed largely to a fine team triumph It was our third league win and ninth in a row over the season with a surprising H W B team leading 8-5 at the quarter, M J H went into a full count press that overwhelmed our rivals from over the hill and turned the contest into a rout Final 'core P J U F 7 Houtzdale 32 High point nan were McCoy 19, Webb 18, and Lockett 16 This Jes league w1n number 4 and in succession Our chances for a league championship looked more than good as our Raiders decisively handled B C I the floor plus McCoy's fine defensive play, the results were never in doubt Webb's 23 and Mowchan with lead all scorers The win was our fifth in the M V L and eleventh in a row With their sights set on the league crown, M J H S next decisioned Reade Twp in a return tilt 77 31 Madera Shooting at nearly a 405 clip our boys were not to be denied After building up a com ending lead, the reserves took over and adequately protected it throughout the remainder of the game Webb with 18, McCoy 18, and Lockett with 16 were the chief point mafers in our sixth league win and twelfth in suc- cession In a non-league contest at Luthersburg, M J H S returned the winner by a 85 58 score It was our thirteenth straight and another fine team effort Once again Webb and Mowchan aontrolled both boards and contributed 14 and 19 points respectively McCoy's 18 and Locketts 13 were a great factor Leading only 22 18 at hall the Raiders in a determined effort to clinch the M V L title, outscored a fighting Morris Twp quinter 60-43 at Morrisdale It was our schoo1's first basketball championship since 1941 With dependable Pete Webb hitting the cords for 23 points and Mike Mowchan and George McCoy hooking them in from all angles for 14 and 12 points, our fighting spirit once again proved too great for our opponent This win was our fourteenth straight League win number eight proved a reality as the Green Raiders completed their M V L competition with a 77 38 win over H W B at Houtzdale to end undefeated With senior forward Pete Webb hitting for 24 points and stellar center Mike Mowchan scoring 16, the combined efforts of dependable G McCoy, C Lockett, and F Moskel were too much for the maroon and white to overcome The Raiders now had von 15 in a row Revenge was the keyword as Houston Twp visited M J H S for a retu n engagement It was the team that had last defeated the Raiders in early December After a nip and tuck first quarter, our boys con vinced everyone that it wouldn't happen again as they decisively defeated the visitors 72 41 Webb's 26, Mowchan 14, McCoy 12, and Lockett ll Brady Twp proved to be Moshannon's 17th straight victim as they just couldn't cope with our high shooting percentage Final score 86-28 This was our last game of the regular season making our slate stand at 17 wins and 3 losses which is a new school record High scorers were stalwarts Mowchan 21, McCoy 19, Webb 17, and Lockett 10 As a result of winning the coveted lea'ue crown, we were eligible for the District 6 playoffs and were scheduled to meet Richland Twp in the preliminary round Our opponents proved most worthy however, as they outplayed us ln every quarter Final score 89 Sl debb with 16 and Mowchan with 12 led our scorers In another post season game, the Green Raiders m t the Alumni of Moshannon in their annual gettogether Our team proved to be in much better condition and eventually wore down the thrusts of our worthy predecessors The score 72 38 For the first time in our history ae were seeded in the annual ft Francis tournament at Loretta, having byes through the opening rounds However, the fnul line proved to be our undoing as we were defeated by Patton High 62 58 in a nip and tuck affair before a pack d house seniors, Webb, McCoy, Mowchan, and Lockett closed out their high school careers in magnificent style even in defeat as they cane through with tinely buckets again and again as the lead see sawed back and forth between the two teams Although scoring three more goals from the field, the Raiders beaten at the foul line hitting only on 8 of 24 tries while Patton
