Xwright Norman D Biker lr THF CLASS OF l956 Mr. William Paxton Faculii Adrirer Here we are, the graduating class of 1956! Within our yearbook, the l956 Mosaic, we have tried to grasp a representative picture of our school life at Moses Brown. Of course there is not paper and print enough to record even a good portion of everything we would like to remember. XX'ho could ever forget: trying to digest those large and frequent doses of French vocabulary, pouring over our history notes the night for morningli before a specific information exam, running the cinders for the track team, cheering the football team, or singing happy birthday to Ben Franklin, General Lee and all our other old cronies. These are just a few of the memories that are now behind us. We also like to think in terms of our individual contributions. Each one of us has, in his own individual way. been a real part of Moses Brown. From here we step forward into the future, armed with a solid educational background. College looms next in line for most of us. After that, doctors. lawyers, businessmen- Perhaps some 20 years from now we will reach into our bookshelf and carefully take down the 1956 Mosaic. After gently brushing off the accumulated dust, we will thumb through the time-honored pages, remembering our life at Moses Brown School. We will think of our classmates, wondering where they are and what they are doing. We will think of our teachers who meant so much to our growth and our development. And as we slowly close the book and set it back in its place, we will think how fortunate we were to have the opportunity to be a part of Moses Brown, 1 X is X f Q I , raw tw we My .rr Q . THE MOSES BROWN NEWS Finishes Its Fourth Season The Moses Brown News, which makes an appearance every week during the school year, closes out its fourth year of operation. The retiring staff is Daniel E. Cohen, Editor-in-Chiefg Edwin M. Howell, James A. Packard, Franklin W. Robinson, Associate Editorsg and Robert H. Willis, Managing Editor. Franklin Robinson will take over the Editor-in-Chiefship for the year 1956-'57. Although the News is in its infancy, it has already become an invaluable in- strument in developing school spirit at Moses Brown. Besides giving an accurate, up-to-date account of all the Schools activities, it also provides the students with an opportunity to express their views on the various aspects of school life through its editorials and Letters to the Editor. In addition to its able editorial board the News Staff consists of some twenty- five reporters who, each week, write up the various activities around School. On Sundays these articles are edited by the Editor-in-Chief and his three associates who in turn submit them to Mr. Fuller, the faculty advisor. Monday mornings the paper is stenciled by Mrs. Allen, and that noon it is mimeographed and distributed by the Managing Editor and his two assistants. At the close of this year certificates will be awarded to the editors and those reporters who have written the required number of articles. Albert Bloom Fain Haggerty Mott Smith, R. B., jr. L. Herman, Faculty Advisor The Moses Brown Chess Club, the oldest club in the School, gives boys an opportunity to learn how to play chess and to participate in one of the annual tournaments. During the weekly meetings under the guidance of Mr. Herman, the faculty advisor, the members spend many enjoyable hours playing the challenging and ancient game of chess. This year's Club, composed of seventy boys from all forms, is one of the largest in its history. As a consequence, three round-robin tournaments, instead of the usual two, have been played. One of the highlights of the season was a visit by a former member of the Club, Mr. Harold Shore, now a prominent member of the Providence Chess Club, and on the afternoon of his visit played simultaneous chess with eight senior members of the Club. Although the Chess Club has met regularly on Monday afternoons between Christmas and spring vacations, many boys over the years have expressed the hope that the scope of its activities may be extended to cover the entire school year. 70 1-L.-.
