PROPHECY I look back over my school days as days of happrness Somethmg that makes me even happrer rs the fact that so many of my schoolmates are rn the news Ten years ago as I flmshed school I never dreamed of Sylvra Braswell owmng a leadrng Beauty Salon rn Florrda but she does When I prcked up my paper thrs mornmg I saw a new han style that has brought fame Sylvra The paper was covered wrth rnterestrng news I saw that Mac Thomas just opened his tenth Frllmg Statron Mac IS really makrng lots of money so I hear Readrng further 1n the paper I saw a prcture of the former Robbre Jean Lrvrngston She 13 a buyer rn the largest Belk s Department Store rn the Unrted States Tummg the page there was rn large letters WAYNE BALLARD NEW G E MANAGER Gomg on I found that he has Just become Presrdent of the General Elecmc Company m Chrcago Scanmng on through the paper my eyes come to rest on the hosprtal news I was shocked to see Bobby Stubbs name on the hosprtal lrst however the paper sard that Bobby was recovenng raprdly He had a slrght accrdent whtle uyrng out one of hrs new stock cars He rs now known as Speedy Stubbs for hrs amazrng speed rn the stock car races What' The former Judy Hutchrnson m the hosprtall Thrs rs Joyful news! Her frrst baby grrll She and her husband already have two sweet lrttle boys Then I saw that Jerry Trmmons had Just become Master Sergeant m the Army Jerry decrded to make a career 1n that field Frankle and chlldren are on the Army Post wrth h1m In the soclety sectron I saw rn b1g prrnt GETTING MARRIED and under ll a prcture of Janet Adams It was announcrng the engagement of Janet to the owner of a large part of the Texas O11 Wells Janet was always on the move rn hrgh school but after ten years she has frnally declded to settle down On the last page of the second sectron I notrced the edrtorral It was wntten by Dewey Thomas I was surprrsed and happy no frnd that he IS Edrtor of such a brg newspaper as the New York Trmes I frmshed readrng the paper and was late to school I Mary Braswell am now Home Economrcs Teacher When I got home from school tlus afternoon I decrded to turn on the telev1s1on set and rest a few mrnutes There was Darsy Lee Purvrs tellmg grrl graduates the benefrts of a career rn nursrng She rs now Head Nurse at Duke Hosprtal rn Durham Then the news came on w1th prctures of the World Serres Joe Pratt 18 star player for the Yankees whrle Lowell Boswell IS playmg agarnst h1m wrth the Grants Lowell IS the best catcher the team has ever had so cntrcs say As a prevrew of the new Broadway Play The General came on I saw that Alrce Burr was to play the lead mg role I could tell by her performance as Dulcy rn the Senror Play ten years ago that Alxce was grfted wrth actrng ab1l1ty The drrector of the play IS Thomas Plulltps He has gamed world fame for h1s marvelous drrect Ing Seeing the unrforms rn the prevrew of The General reminded me of Joyce Gathmgs I saw her rn Morven the other day wh1le she was on a two months leave from the Arr Force Post rn Germany where she IS stauoned Joyce sa1d that she loved the A1r Force and wrthrn the next three months she would be marned to a Colonel As I reached to turn off the set the announcer sa1d that the Mrss Umverse Contest fmalrsts would be shown next Out of curosrty and envy I decrded to see them Rlsden Ackerman a Hollywood producer was announcrng the frve top Mmss Umverse frnalrsts To my happy surprrse there was Kathryn I-lrghtower as Mrss Umted States Rrsden sa1d that the Mrss Umverse wmner would be announced tomorrow I can hardly wart untrl then Everyone rn the Unrted States rs pullmg for Kat I must turn off the TV now to go and prepare dmner I am expectrng one of my old classmates the former Martha Wrgley her husband and then two daughters Martha and her famrly have been home from Washmgton for a short vacatron She rs the personal secretary of the Vrce Presrdent It 1S a Joy to know that all my old classmates are so happy My greatest Joy however comes from my lovrng husband and our darlrng IWIDS Mary Braswell Complrments of MORVEN ESSO STATION Joe and Jack Thomas Morven North Carolrna Phone UL 1 3640 . 5 . . . .
