Row two: Mary Ann Sage, Sharon Born. Sharon Vurtis, Garnet Browning, Larry Rupp, Loretta Gossage, Evangeline Smith, Rosemary Miller. .Ioice Craft, and Frank Riggs. Row three: Mr. Elliott, Sponsor, Rose Smith, Sally Dickison, Freda Grubbs, Charles Krivanek, Donald Buckley, Daniel Beard. Fred Kelly. Bill Tuttle, and Miss Hays, Sponsor. HE FRESHMEN class started their first year of high school with twenty-eight members. The sponsors of the group are Miss Hays and Mr. Elliott. The class is prominent in athletics and extra curricular activities and has several students on the scholastic honor roll. Larry Harshman, Donald Buckley, Sam Frye, and Sharon Curtis are among those with out- standing scholastic records for the year. All eleven of the boys in the class made up the Freshmen basketball team. Eight were out for for the track squad. Ten of the boys were out for football. Five of the boys played on the Second Team during the season, and Sam Frye played on the Varsity before the season was over. The class was well represented in the band, choir, dance band, and other organiza- tions by: Verne Douglass, Beverly Bragdon, Gloria Ernest, Edward Markovich, Mary Ann Sage, Sharon Born, Sharon Curtis, Garnet Browning, Larry Rupp, Loretta Gossage, Evangeline Smith, Sally Dickison, and Bill Tuttle. Freshmen subjects are: English, general mathematics or algebra, biology, civics, home economics, health education, physical educa- tion, and industrial arts. The students have not yet selected the course they will wish to pursue throughout high school, but will do so at the beginning of their Sophomore year in the fall from the following: Academic, Commercial, Home Economics, and Industrial Arts. In the view of their talents, interests and participation in the many activities, the Freshmen are expected to add much luster to Morton Memorial before their high school career is finished.

HIRTY-TWO students represents the sophomore class at Morton Memorial High this year. Their class sponsors are Mr. Levy and Miss Vickrey. The sophomores have many students who are active in the various clubs, organiza- tions, and athletics that are found on the campus. Those representing the class in the field of athletics are: Joe McDermitt, Clifford McDermitt, Frank Strother, William Paige, and Melvin Whitesell. David Goins was student manager for the varsity teams of Morton Memorial. Several of the boys are expected to help Morton Memorial's basket- ball fortunes in the years to come. Rosemary Ketchum is one of our cheerleaders. Girls especially talented in music and dancing are: Sue Flint, Betty Craft, Evelyn Smith, Florence Leth, Margaret Napier, Rosemary Ketchum, and Carmen Harbert. Members from this class are also repre- sented in the 4-H and Art Clubs These stu- dents are: Ruth Flint, Sue Flint, Judy Jordan, Ellen Joyce, Betty Craft, Florence Leth, Esther McCloud, Rosemary Ketchum, Evelyn Smith, Sharon Lovett, Margaret Napier, Fred Searcy, and Gary Dooley. The boys who participated in boys' chorus are: Kenneth Rich, Joe McDermitt, Gary Dooley, Vernon Grubbs, Roland Jack, Clifford McDermitt, Frank Strother, and Frank Oldham. Those students in choir are: Naomi Askin, Betty Craft, Gary Dooley, Vernon Grubbs, Judy Jordan, Sue Flint, Rosemary Ketchum, Evelyn Smith, Carmen Harbert, Margaret Napier, and Clifford McDermitt. There are some that have been making good grades and are looking forward to getting in the National Honor Society. These students are: Donald Towne, Betty Craft, Rosemary Ketchum, Sue Flint, and Ruth Flint. Among these, Donald Towne, and Betty Craft were inducted into National Honor Society this year.
