Of the three teams played, only one, the Bears of Lawrence Cen., managed to defeat the Tigers by a large score. The boys played inspired football Linder the new coach, Jim Roush, who graduated from Ball State. We have hopes that in the years to come, Morton's football team will again be as respected as they once were by the large schools of the state, The usual starters for the games were: Backtield, Carpenter, Gerbig, Snedak er and Ollier. Ends, McDaniel and Conner. Tackles, Johnson and Brannon. Guards: Moreland and Mitchell. Center: C'urtis. Other members who saw some action were: Swango, Hart, Kardon, and Moreland in the back- field. Filling in the line were: Tackles: Long, Shields and Allison: Guards: Huff and Hancockg Ends: Foster and McDaniel: with Gerholdt at Center. Wheeler was out because of injuries most of the season. Several boys who were light for varsity competition practiced with the squad and scrimmaged to gain experience.

GREENWOOD 12-MORTON 6 Without previous experience, the Morton Tigers went down to defeat before the Woodmen of Greenwood in their opening game on Greenwood's football field. The Woodmen broke through for a touchdown in the second and third quar- ters, while Snedaker broke away around end with a sixty-five yard run for the Tigers only touchdown. Outstanding players for the Tigers were Snedaker, half-back, and Mitchell, guard. LAWERENCE CENTRAL 46-MORTON 6 The Tigers' second game proved to be one of their rough- est contests of the season. The Bears of Lawerence Central plowed through the Tigers almost at will, scoring twenty-one points the first half and twenty-five the second, and sending several Tigers to the bench wth injuries, but the,'Tigers had their moment of glory in the third quarter, when Snedaker, carrying the ball on an around end play. ran eighty-five yards. for Morton's only touchdown. ARCADIA 26-MORTON 18 The Tigers, playing their first game on the local gridiron since 1943, went down to defeat before the Eagles of Arcadia in a hard fought battle. The Tigers scored once on a line plunge by Gerbig and twice on end runs by Snedaker, while the Eagles collected four touchdowns and two extra points. The outcome of the game was in doubt until almost the last minute of the game. Outstanding was Snedaker, who ran 65 yards for one of his two touchdowns.
