We the senior class of 1984 dedicate this yearbook to parents. From the first day of kindergarten when you practically pushed us on the bus; to all those years when you provided a taxi service so that we wouldn t miss out on a single thing; for the hundreds of cookies, bars, cakes, and bucks you willingly gave us to make all those games and meetings the best they could be; and finally, despite all the groundings, traumatic happenings and late night worries of our last few years you never once let us down when it came to believing in ourselves. and a whole lot more, we sincerely thank being there when we needed you! rti mrf '■£ kt,m -Fctst 06 73 rod Kod ± V 10 Laurie Goblirsch escorted by Brad Kodet. Cassie Cherry escorted by Dan Brazil. Lynn Greenslit escorted by Jim Hennen. Gloria Forcier escorted by Steve Petsinger. 11 Homecoming week 1983 was filled with thrilling ups and unlucky downs. October 3 was coronation night and just the beginning of a fun filled week. Laurie Goblirsch was crowned 1983 Homecoming Queen and the FHA took top honors in the skit contest. On Tuesday and Thursday nights the girls Volleyball team lost two disappointing games. The day we had all looked forward to finally arrived. The excitement began with the 2 p.m. parade; followed by the “Super Bowl of powder puffs with the mighty seniors and freshmen taking on the awesome juniors and sopho- mores. It was truly a test of ability resulting in a 6-6 tie. The Cottonwood Raiders had no trouble defeating our football team Friday night with a score of too much to not enough! The grand finale took place after the game when the K.EEZ Music Mobile rolled into town. Everyone went home ex- hausted, but with memories to last throughout the year! 13 Sweetheart Coronation 1984 Left to Right: Sheri Martin, Donna Borman, Kris Simning, Queen - Kim Pendleton, Jeri Kodet, Paula Wittgraf, Lori Hennen. The night of the 1984 Sweetheart Coronation was a special event. One reason for this was that the FHA Chapter invited several past sweetheart queens to participate in the ceremony. Thanks to them the evening was indeed a thrill for all of us. Another surprise was provided by Mrs. Taggart's fourth graders who sang a Valentines song for the candi- dates. Also singing for the audience was a select group of senior girls. The highlight of the evening was, of course, when reigning queen, Lynn Greens- lit crowned Kim Pendleton as our 1984 Sweetheart Queen. The FHA'ers and their advisor, Mrs. Roble, should be congratulated on a job well done! Don't look now Kim! Mistress of Ceremonies - Mary Jo Serbus. On April 28th 1984 the Junior - Senior prom took place. The evening started with a dinner at the Sheep Shedde with guest speaker Gary Nytes. The night moved on as the grand march and dance fol- lowed with music provided by Super System LTD. A Night In New York was the theme of the prom and the gym was decorated like the Big Apple . The seniors would like to thank the juniors for all their work and for the special evening. A Night In 16 New York Junior - Senior Prom 1984 Broken Sentences 20 1. Cast and crew - Standing: Donna Borman, Jean Reitter, Director - Jan Theobald. Sitting: Cassie Cher- ry, Lori Hennen, Maria Doverborg, Patty Lussenhop, Lynn Greenslit. Broken Sentences is a play about two sweet elderly ladies, the Lovejoy sisters, played by Lori Hennen and Patty Lussenhop. These ladies decide to help a social worker. Miss Hatfield, played by Maria Doverborg and take two slightly wayward girls into their home. Mitzi and Lolly, played by Lynn Greenslit and Cassie Cherry, resent having to stay there and having to act like ladies. The two girls suddenly realize these sweet old ladies are not what they appear to be, but in the end everything comes out O.K.. and they all find they have something to give each other. The Life O' The Party 1. Cast and crew - Standing: Joey Mahoney, Bob Lar- sen, Tony Brown, Lori Hennen, Paula Wittgraf, Cathy Swoboda, Director - Jan Theobald. Sitting: B.J. Schnitzler, Maria Doverborg, Patty Lussenhop, Jim Hennen, Jean Reitter, Brad Kodet. The Life O' The Party was the name of the play that was performed on May 4th for the annual variety show. The cast did a great job of acting and the crew should also be commended for the great job they did. We can not forget Mrs. Theobald for the wonderful job of directing that she did. Thanks for all your help. 21 Solo Ensembles 1. Clarinet and Flute ensemble: Lori Hen- nen, Donna Borman, Laurie Goblirsch missing: Cassie Cherry 2. Alto Clarinet solo- Kelly Cherry 3. This proves that the class of 1984 was special for they were individuals. Receiving the Robert Pfeiffer award was Gloria Forcier and Laurie Angermeyr received the math award. Laurie Goblirsch received the Robert Bucholtz award and Tammy Carruth received the art award. Lynn Greenslit received the sci- ence award and female athlete of the year award, while Jim Hennen received the male athlete of the year award. Mr. Roger Melquist received the 1984 staff award. Football was frustrating this year as Morton struggled through an 0-8 season. A lack of weight, experience, and consistency resulted in the defeat. Five seniors, Jim Hennen, Steve Petsinger, Dan Brazil, Jim Swoboda and Milo Taylor dominated the statistics. They will be missed as the remaining players look forward to the next season. 30 31 Bump It Up .... They had the skill and ability to do it, but lacked the height. Many games were close, but Morton just didn't have the power to come up a winner. However, there were bright spots in the season, and they were: Lynn Greenslit receiving the Hon- orable Mention award from the New Ulm Journal, Laurie Angermeyr, receiving All Conference and Jean Reitter, receiving Honorable Men- tion. Congratulations to these girls, the team and coaches for giving it their all! Basketball Team .... Winless, But Tough! 1. This page is set aside to give recognition to Mrs. Mary Revier for her many years as advisor of the Yearbook Staff. Her generosity and kindness have been greatly appreciated by everyone. She has donated much more than time and effort to this organization. Mrs. Revier's friendship, loyalty, and guid- ance have made us all realize the true meaning of dedication! Mary Revier - We, the Yearbook Staff of 1983-84, would like to thank you for everything you have done for us! Remember, we will always Love You! 47 Tomahawk Staff This past summer our yearbook staff attended a camp which assisted us in preparing the 1983-84 yearbook. While at camp it occurred to us that the theme keys to the past, present, and future would be appropriate for this year. The keys symbolize all the doors that have been, are, or will be opened to us. As you look through this yearbook we hope that you will see the hard work and memories we put into it to make it special. We would like to thank all the advertisers and patrons for without them this yearbook would not be possible! I'm sorry, I promise I won't hit you again!' This year the Juniors were fortunate enough to have Ann van Gils from Holland in their class. She added alot to the class and will be missed very much next year. The Ju- niors worked hard and gave it their all on the magazine drive and raised the most money ever raised at M.H.5. The money went towards Prom which was a success and a special time for every- one.
