Although there were a few problems that occurred, they were far overshadowed by the new friendships made and the old friendships reinforced. Unfortunately we have to say farewell to these experiences. We hope these pictures will provide a lifelong record of the time we spend together. Top: Who is the queen Joe or Stacey? These people not only did this for fun, but at the same time for compe- tition. Kelly Haskell, Laurie Goblirsch and Ann Brazil went to districts with their selec- tions in Unoriginal Oratory, Poetry, and Hu- morous Interpretation. The festivities started Monday with Hat and Grub Day. Tuesday everyone came dressed in country duds for it was Country and Western Day. Wednesday we came dressed in our best. Everyone wore the latest punk fashions for it was Punk-Rock Day. Friday was the traditional Blue and Gold Day. Monday evening coronation for both Morton and Franklin was held in the Franklin Audito- rium. Amy Bethke was crowned our 1982 Homecoming Queen. Friday afternoon the traditional homecoming parade pro- ceeded through Morton with both Morton and Franklin's homecoming court and band participating. That night the Mor- ton-Franklin football team charged onto the field determined to win. As the final gun-shot sounded it was Morton-Franklin 17 and Milroy 6. Afterwards Caravan pro- vided the music for the Grand March and the rest of the evening. It was a nice end- ing to a special week. There was an unusually large amount of time and energy spent on this year’s annual be- cause of the small staff. Our objective was to show every- one that their annual held the stories, friends, and most of all, the many memories of that year. By glancing at the top of each page you should have discovered our theme which is cereal slogans. We chose this because watching television seems to be the only form of entertainment we can afford these days. We'd also like to thank everyone who helped on the 1983 annual. While attending a camp in St. Cloud during August they won a Super Star award and the Spirit stick. These were both the highest awards given. The season was frustrating and dis- appointing. They had trouble on defense and never capitalized the play to have the oppor- tunity to spike. This page has been set aside to honor him. Brian’s accomplishments in athletics are well known. He earned twelve letters in three sports during his playing days at Morton. In addition to the letters he was a unanimous all-conference pick in basketball both his junior and senior years. He was KNUJ player of the week both years and was KNUJ Player of The Year his senior year. He also was an all-area performer as picked by the New Ulm Journal these two years. In his senior year he became a member of the exclusive 1000 point club, ending his career with a total of 1285. He had a one-game high of an almost impossible 49 points. While there was not an all-conference team chosen in football he was an all-area selection in that sport. He was a KNUJ player of the week selection and also voted the teams most valuable player. In his career he generated more than 4000 yards in offense — a rare accomplishment for a high school athlete. In spite of the fact baseball was not offered his senior year he earned four letters in that sport, was an honorable mention all-area and all-conference performer and voted the teams most valuable offensive player. All of these are great honors and accomplishments for Brian. They have come about as a result of a great deal of natural talent, but more important, a willingness to work and an intense desire to succeed. He is an electrifying player in all sports. When you left a game in which he had participated, you knew who Brian Pendleton was. He was greatly admired and respected by opponents, teammates, and coaches. He was characterized by his coolness” under all types of situations and as a team player . In spite of all the recognition Brian has received, the one thing that makes him stand out above all else is that he has always remained humble and is a real gentleman We're proud of you Brian — Best of luck as you pursue further athletic and academic goals. The combination of the Morton and Franklin boys' bas- ketball teams into the Morton-Franklin Tigers looked very promising, but never seemed to come together A disappointing season came to an end with a defeat at the hands of Redwood Falls in the Quarterfinals of the District Ten playoffs The Tigers finished the season at 8 - 10. sixth in the Tomahawk Conference. The Tigers started four seniors, all of whom will be missed, but Brian Pendleton and Pete Anderson will be more than difficult to replace. Brian Pendleton led the nference in scoring at 25 points per game. He was elected to the All-Conference team and was named KNUJ Player of the Year. Pete Anderson was second on the team in both scoring and rebounding. He was also an All-Conference selection. Coach Jon Hagen faces a challenge in rebuilding a team for the again solo Indian team. Our Team Is .. The joining of the Morton and Franklin girls basketball programs for the 1982-1983 school year proved to be a highly successful combination. Head coach Deb Distad managed to bring two teams with differing personalities together to form one of the most competitive squads in the area. Joining two unfamiliar groups is never an easy situa- tion, but through the hard work and dedication to team basketball that all the girls showed these two groups be- came a team . The Tigers finished the year with an overall record, good for second place Tomahawk finish. The girls were seeded third in District Ten and advanced to the semifinals before losing by one point in an overtime heartbreaker to San- born. 48 SCOREBOARD OPPONENT Redwood Falls Springfield Belview Raymond Gibbon Morgan Sleepy Eye Gaylord Wa basso Winthrop Belview Fairfax Springfield Morgan Redwood Falls Gibbon Wa basso Sleepy Eye TOURNAMENT ACTION Sleepy Eye Sanborn O.T. Long hours of homework, being pushed to the back of the lunch line, and watching the senior high kids getting all the breaks are all a part of our first years in high school! Though this was a difficult time it is a neces- sary and important part of our lives. This years seventh grade class is a good example of this as they begin their journey towards graduation. Be- cause Japan is so far away and because our culture is so very dif- ferent, Kazumi’s experiences here at Morton were anything but ordinary. Everything was so new to her from our food and dress to our various personalities and li- festyles. Our year was enriched a thousand times over and for this we would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Gary Cornwell and Lisa for inviting her here. 72 Amy Bethke Mark Daun Sandy Brockway Peter Brown Behind Us Scott Greenslit Tony Lussenhop fW i Daneilla Leith Ann MacHoli Tracy Middleton Kazumi Moriwaka Cathy Reitter Brian Pendleton Mary Tisdell What Lies Within Us 9 CLASS MOTTO CLASS FLOWER White Rose with a Red Tint What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters to what lies within us ...
