Deciam FRONT ROW: Kelly Haskell, Kelly Cherry, Paula Wittgraf. SECOND ROW: Margaret Brockway. THIRD ROW: Kris Simning, Karyl Haskell, Jeanne Deinken, Julie Cornwell. MISSING: Susan Kersten. LEFT TO RIGHT: Kelly Cherry, Julie Cornwell, Jeanne Deinken, Susan Kersten, and Kelly Haskell. Morton was well represented in declam this year. We tripled the participants from three last year to nine this year. At sub- district competition nine girls gave it their best shot for Mor- ton. These nine girls were Su- san Kersten, Margaret Brock- way, Julie Cornwell, Jeanne Deinken, Kelly Haskell, Karyl Haskell, Kris Simning, Kelly Cherry, and Paula Wittgraf. Ju- lie Cornwell and Jeanne Dein- ken received alternate placings at sub-district competition and Susan Kersten, Kelly Haskell, and Kelly Cherry went on to compete at district level. All in all, 1981 turned out to be a good year for Morton in declam com- petition. 19

Fun Night And The Plays FRONT ROW: Tony Lussenhop, Shawn Frank, Peter Brown. SECOND ROW: Patty Angermeyr, Charlotte Bethke, Jeanne Reitter, Karyl Haskell, Jeanne Dein- ken, Laurie Caven, Mary Angermeyr, Ms. Kathy O’Connor - Director. MISSING: Ric Deinken Under the direction of Kathy O’Connor Mor- ton again put on two plays this year. The first, “Shut and Bar the Door”, was a one act play given for the district competition in January. The second, “Who Dunit?”, was a three-act play given as a major part of Fun Night. The success of this play helped add to the overall success of Fun Night. The stu- dent council headed Fun Night in order to promote community involvement in the school. A chili supper was held followed by acts performed by the Indianettes, Birch Coulee 4-H Club, Student Council, and a solo by Joe Ruhland as well as the play. Hopeful- ly the success of Fun Night this year will help to make it an annual event and increase involvement in the school by the parents and involvement in other activities by the stu- dents. FRONT ROW: Patty Angermeyr, Julie Cornwell, Susan Kersten, Jeanne Deinken. BACK ROW: Richard Deinken, Tim Kojetin. it

Lyceums During the 1980-81 school year the Morton stu- dents were entertained by four assembly programs sponsored by Dakota Assemblies, Inc. from North Dakota. During the fall there was a juggling exhi- bition and a frisbee performance. Later in the year two especially unique magic and reptile presenta- tions were given. One other assembly held during the year was a performance by a Dakota Dance group. The students gained from their participa- tion in these excellent learning experiences. 1. When detention fails ... 2. There is always an alternative! 3. And in box number 2 4. Is Darcee’s new friend. So Why are Amy and Nate laughing? 5. Well, it was supposed to rain! 20
