RIGHT: At the coronation program on Thursday evening, October 14, the Pep Club presents the second place skit in which Marcia Bethke, Ann Ruhland, Lynn Lokker, Lisa Tisdell, Mary Jo Brazil, and Terry Tate check their watches and get wet feet. MIDDLE RIGHT: No Eagles Allowed demands the first place float, built by the sixth grade class, so the Eagles walk while the Indians ride. After getting off to a good start they had a little downfall at mid-season. High- lights of the season were defeating Redwood Falls and Gaylord. Being rated 6th in District 10 Morton defeated Sleepy Eye St. Marys, Sleepy Eye Public and Morgan, before falling to Red- wood Falls in the finals. One of the highlights of the season was the 64-59 victory over Red- wood Falls early in the season. The Indians were undefeated in Tomahawk Conference play. Seeded first in the district, Morton couldn't get past second-ranked Redwood Falls in the finals. They learned cheers, chants, mounts and jumps, received a spirit stick, and won two blue ribbons on the last day of camp. The A squad cheered at football games, while the B squad cheered for volleyball. During the basket- ball season the A and B squads were split in rotating squads and cheered at both girls' and boys' games. Both squads followed the basketball teams to the district finals. This made for a hectic and exciting season. A couple of the new chants for the year were: Damberger's Hot- dogs hustle their buns! and Let's get rowdie, let's get rough, let's get rowdie and rough, rough, rough. Third placers were Donna Anger- meyr in the 100 yard dash, Dar- cee Dehncke, in the 880 run and Terry Tate in the 180 hurdles. These advanced to region compe- tition. Later in April the pre-prom car wash earned the class $45 and many soaked clothes. Later that evening the whole sophomore class diligently helped serve at the prom banquet. The big moment was approaching with the speed of a bullet. Every- one was getting very excited. (The Prom blues were out too.) They sponsored a one-on-one basketball tourna- ment. Playoffs were held before the senior-faculty basketball game on March 7. Brad Bidinger won the a 11-school trophy and David Bidinger won the 7th and 8th grade division. Runners up were Greg Hennen, Jeff Reetz, Myron Dam- berger and Barry Loos. Seniors defeated Faculty 66-62. At the Athletic Banquet, the guest speaker was Chuck Senkyr, a 1971 graduate of Morton High who will play football with the Cleveland Browns. They held a straw vote before the presidential elec- tions in November and another before the school board election in May. The council arranged for the mo- vie Airport, 1975 which the high school attended at the Falls Theatre before Christmas vacation. They started a new tradition by choosing a Staff Member of the Year , Mr. Tim Madigan.
