A game to remember; a year never to forget . . Tension was mounting at the 12:45 pep test as the Morton fans rocked the building with their loud cheers of Eat 'em up Eat 'em up up up . . . It was Homecoming, October 4 1974 and everybody was anxious for the big game with Gaylord to begin. A 19-0 halftime lead by Gaylord didn't discourage the Indians. They came back as a determined, fired-up team quickly scoring 3touchdowns to take the lead 20-19. The first touchdown came on a 20 yard pass from Jeff Borman to Joe Hennen. Gay- lord fumbled the ensuing kickoff return and Jeff eventually scored on a quarterback sneak. Morton recovered a squibbed kickoff and minutes later Jeff scored again on a sneak. Tom Borman ran the all important conversion to put MHS ahead. A come from behind touchdown by the Spartans then put them in the lead, 27-20. With the clock ticking away, and no remaining time-outs, the Indians got the ball on Gaylord's 5 yard line, first and goal to go. Then , . . BANG. Time ran out on the would be story of the year.
