Today will be a pleasant memory tomorrow because we cared enough to give the only thing we have . . . ourselves. — Senior Class Motto TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction Homecoming ..........................6 Organizations ..................... 11 A thletics ........................ 25 Classes ............................45 Activities .........................67 Administration And Faculty .........77 Advertisements .....................81 Student Life .......................93 Cover Design by Nancy Lothert It was here—it went fast—it's gone. The '74-'75 school year brought many memories to Mor- ton High school students. Only you, the reader, can say whether they were good or bad, happy or sad memories. The 9 short months spent in school saw many nation- wide history-making events hap- pening—The resignation of one president and inauguration of an- other, a January blizzard sweep- ing the midwest, moments of war, moments of peace. And back home we saw new changes at MHS—a new administration, new classes, a new computer terminal, new carpeting. . . Yes, those 9 months went fast, and of course, touched the lives of all of us. 2 Doin’ your thing at M HS Tom Borman and Cathy Gallery Rocky Crooks and Vicki Ruhland (right) Crown bearers for the '74-'75 coronation ceremonies were 1st graders Karen Simmons and Tim Prescott, (bot- tom) Spif Tate and his Morton Meanies had the audience rolling in the aisles with their 50's per- formance. This skit was put on by the M Club and won 1st place. Highlights of Homecoming ’74-75 What is one of the most exciting hapenings of the school year? If you said homecoming you're absolute- ly right. Homecoming festivities began on October 3, 1974 with the coronation ceremonies. Starting the eve- ning off, the football team, the skits, the candidates and their escorts were introduced. Vicki Ruhland, '73- 74 queen, returned to crown the new queen, a tearful, but happy Gloria Gaasch. The next afternoon a snake dance led the parade through the streets of Morton followed by the queen's float and class floats. Swamp 'em, the freshmen float, received the first place award. That night the kids boogied to the music of FLATROCK in the MHS gym. What a way to kick off the year! A game to remember; a year never to forget . . Tension was mounting at the 12:45 pep test as the Morton fans rocked the building with their loud cheers of Eat 'em up Eat 'em up up up . . . It was Homecoming, October 4 1974 and everybody was anxious for the big game with Gaylord to begin. A 19-0 halftime lead by Gaylord didn't discourage the Indians. They came back as a determined, fired-up team quickly scoring 3touchdowns to take the lead 20-19. The first touchdown came on a 20 yard pass from Jeff Borman to Joe Hennen. Gay- lord fumbled the ensuing kickoff return and Jeff eventually scored on a quarterback sneak. Morton recovered a squibbed kickoff and minutes later Jeff scored again on a sneak. Tom Borman ran the all important conversion to put MHS ahead. A come from behind touchdown by the Spartans then put them in the lead, 27-20. With the clock ticking away, and no remaining time-outs, the Indians got the ball on Gaylord's 5 yard line, first and goal to go. Then , . . BANG. Time ran out on the would be story of the year. Girls win district . . . place 2nd in Region III With more and more talk about woman's rights, 1974 brought the first State High School League Girls Bas- ketball tournament to Minnesota. After winning the Conference, the girls went into the District rated num- ber 1. By defeating Springfield and Wabasso they met Gaylord at New Ulm on Nov. 9, for the District Cham- pionship. Amid joyful cheers and tearful faces, the girls received the 1st place trophy. They then advan- ced to the Region III semi-finals held at Granite Falls. There they met Prinsburg in a close 35-31 struggle. Glencoe, a much taller and more experienced team, was then their opponent for the final game. Glencoe's height and experience proved them the better team and they went on to win the state championship. Arriving on Mon., in the back of a pickup truck, they registered, were assigned their rooms, and were introduced to the NCA staff. Tues. began the busy week of learning new cheerleading techniques. The girls got off to a good start each of the first 2 nights of competi- tion by winning the highest awards possible; a superior blue ribbon and spirit stick. The last and most memor- able day came too soon. On that day, the MHS cheer- leaders received 2 superior blue ribbons, and a spirit stick, besides being one of the 10 best squads chosen to compete for the District Championship. 43 HEADSTART front row: Kristin Huber, Andy Frank, Bobby Dehncke, Gary Deinken, Dana Hoff, Cory Seehausen. row two: Joseph Goodthunder, Ross McCorquodale, Wendy Seehausen, Penny Serbus, Greg Deinken, Elizabeth Gregg, Michele Pendleton, Tammy Dallenbach, absent: Jeffrey Lothert and Chad Serbus. So began a very memorable evening in a Castle in the Sky. The evening began at 7:30 with a banquet at St. John's Catholic Church catered by the Blue Mound from Luverne. The speaker for the evening was our hiyh school princiapl, Mr. Hallock. The Class Will and Prophecy were also read. The Grand March be- gan at 9:15 in the high school gymnasium with Clover pro- viding the music. The gym was gaily decorated like a Castle with a garden and fountains. A drawbridge added a special touch. A great deal of thanks to their advisors, Mrs. Hallock and Mr. Borman. And especially to Mrs. Hallock for her many hours of preparation and work on the banquet, the memory books, and the dance. Athletic Banquet The Athletic Banquet was May 22 at the Sleepy Eye Orchid Inn. The guest speaker was Tyrone Wacker, head football, wrestling, and baseball coach at Worth- ington Community College.
