There are five operational units within the department, which provide a variety of services to accomplish the objective. The Storekeepers maintain the ship ' s financial records and manage the repair parts inventory. They also provide technical assistance in identifying hard to find items on the open market. The Commissarvmen are responsible for the preparation of the crew ' s meals and the maintenance of the mess decks (crews dining area). They serve three meals a day and do the baking for the 289 members of the crew. The Stewards prepare the officers ' meals and maintain the cleanliness of the wardroom and the officers ' staterooms. They are a versatile group by necessity ready to serve VIP ' s or just cook up a little chicken adobo, a wardroom favorite. , The Shipservicemen are a diversified group. Their jobs include the running of the ship s store, doing the ship ' s laundry and the operation of the barber shop. The profits from the store go to the Welfare and Recreation Fund. The haircuts and laundry are provided free of charge. Last, but certainlv not least, are the Disbursing Clerks. They provide the long green stuff that keeps the economv going. Thev also provide personal financial services and keep an eye on leave balances. They seem to become especially popular around the 15th and 30th of each month. I wonder why?
