They also provide the offensive punch for shore bombardment to back up ground or amphibious operations. The Gunner ' s Mates repeatedly make the guns respond to all firing missions. Those guns and their booming voices have provided the ship with the reassurance that, indeed, we are well protected. The Fire Control Technicians, by working in close harmony with the Gunners, direct the gunfire with pinpoint accuracy. Both the MK. 68 and MK. 56 plotting rooms demonstrate continuous accuracy and reliability.
