THE MORSONIAN 5799 IMO The annual prrze speakrng contest was held February Z4 The peakers were Eben Elwell Chesla OBr1en Wrlbour West Henrretta Fyvombly Julra Elyy ell Helen Smrth Frank Revnolds md Beulah Webber Frrst prrze for the boys yvent to Wrlbour West and first prrze for the grrls yvent to Henrretta Twombly Eben Elyvell recerved econd p11ze and honorable mentron was grven to Chesla O Brren The Junrors and Semors were coached by Mrss Alfred 1 T rnner The Fresh men and Sophomores yvere coached by Mr Freld A dmce yvas en royed after the pr ebentatron of pr17es On Frrday afternoon March 3 yve had another spe rker He W is 'vlr Mahal of the Bangor Darly News who spoke to us rbout Wrre l'noto He had seyeral machrnes wrth hrm yyhrch fue used rn thrs yyork and he demonstrated the use of these rs he told us about them He also had a number of prctures yvhrch hrye rpperred rn news papers Before he left he took a prcture or the Physrcs class examrn mg hrs equrpment A day or so afterwards thrs prcture was rn the paper The school gathered rn the audrtorrum Frrdfry afternoon March 10 for a town meetrng sponsored by the Freshman Crvrcs clrss and the Senror Socral Problems class As soon as the meetrng wrs called to order the offrcers who had been elected rn the mornrng by the Austrfrlran Ballot took the oath of offrce These offrcers were Select Margaret Carr Member of the School Board Frances Roberts and Treasurer Hazel Cookson Folloyyrng thlq the rrtrcles rn the warrant were taken up the students grvmg therr arguments for md rgamst them One or tyyo artrcles were passed over Bec ruse of lack of trme the meetrng had to be adrourned before 111 the artrcles had been taken up Last fall a renewed efort was made to enlarge the C urtarn Fund At thrs trme yvhen a number of toyy nspeople yvere kmdly C0lltI'lbLltlIlg' to our fund each of the classes decrded rt yvrs only httrng th at they too should contrrbute somethrng Therefore flye doll yrs yy 'rs trans ferred from each class treasury to the Curtarn Fund We ue all hop mg that noyv fyvrth the help of the money the tfrcultv m rde yvrth then playj yve can haye a new curtarn before graduatron Aunt Bessre Beats the Band a three act comedy yyas present ed by the faculty March 10 The cast rncluded Mrs Crlley Mrs Broyyn Mrss Mrller Mrs Pattershall Mr Ryrn M1 Freld Mr Sayage and Prrncrpal Oryrlle J Guptrll J Thrs play yvrs certrrnlv emoy ed 'oy ey eryone The money yy hrch yyas receryed yy rs deposrted rn the C urtarn Fund The school plav A Ready Made Famrly yy as g,1y en Frrday mght vlarch 31 The story of the pl rv rn short rs as folloyys Agnes Martyn .'
