This was one of the regular cliches heard this year at the games from the varsity cheerleaders. Mrs. Blakney showed her courage and fortitude by taking over the 1982-83 cheersquad. The cheerleaders under her direction, and with their enthusiasm and com- petence added much spirit to Morse's athletic events. They did so well, in fact, that they placed first in the voter registration intra-district competition and presented Morse High with a glowing trophy. This year's Varsity Cheersquad . . . The season began with the se- cond annual Friendship Bowl against Serra High and eventually the Tigers were highly recognized for their victory with the outstan- ding Serra team. Because of the disappointing loss against Vista, Lincoln and Clairemont High School. Clairemont had to be the biggest loss in Morse’s football history. It was the Tigers’ 1982-83 Homecoming game which amounted in the end as an upset to Tiger fans. However, through determination, dedica- tion, and enthusiasm, it didn't matter whether they won or lost but how they won or lost the game. And its how they played the game that counted the most . . . The Tigers were able to shut-out three teams from scor- ing as well as maintaining “undefeated” in the Eastern League Games. Since football is not an individual sport, togetherness is what counts. The Tigers’ team- work was sharp and they showed it by not on- ly striving for victory, but for compatibility. A wrestler must pul his body on a regular routine. An athlete wrestles to get his body down to lean body weight. This then indicates which weight class will In- best for him. When the season is into full sw- ing. the wrestler must then begin to supplement wrestling with weights, drilling, cycling, body exercise, and whatever feels right for his body. Hut the most important aspect of wrestling is the wrestler's attitude about himself and his fellow teammates. This train of thought falls under the categories of mental attitude, discipline, power, strength, and the desire to excell. This year's Wrestling Team, is l cing led by a Senior. VICl'OK AMADOR, who is a 3 yr. Letterman and a 2 yr. Eastern 1-eaguer. The team is mainly made up of undergraduates with the tremen- dous potential to become champions. Bottom row: Hugenr Mitchell. But all, however, was not in vain for Tiger Badminton this year. With 17 rookies on this year’s team, mistakes were to be expected. Nevertheless, the solid foundation of experience gained by this year’s team should contribute to even greater efforts by Tiger Badminton in the future.
