It was a great success and everyone participated. The band playing there was ‘“‘Nature.”’ 14 HOMECOMING NIGHT! Homecoming Night was a night the Mighty Tigers will not forget. Slowly the rain fell, leaving the stands with faithful Tigers cold and wet. Despite all the rain, Homecoming night was not ruined. The crowd cheered their team on to victory. [The game was played against St. Augustine and Morse was victorious over the Saints with a score of 7 to 2. 16 Haystack Hoedown The first big activity of the year, the Haystack Hoedown started the year off with a bang. The Haystack Hoedown is an annual event sponsored by Girls’ League. This year it was held on September 16. During the day students and teachers come to school dressed as hobos and bums. During the evening, a dance was held. The lucky (or unlucky) guys got led down that long dark aisle to that big step of marriage, but it was the guys that did the leading to the Divorce Court. Thank God It’s Wednesday takes place every 2 weeks at 11:31 to 12:53 ona Wednesday, of course. It’s held during the lunch periods, both periods combined. Students can go to the cafetorium and dance, on the field and participate in various sports such as basketball, tennis, handball, archery, and softball, or into different activities such as crafts, crocheting, knitting, backpacking and watching movies. You could even throw a frisbee at each other. The first TGIW took place on March 28 of 1973. Thank God It’s Wednesday would not be possible if it wasn’t for a group of concerned people and teachers who cared enough to try ... and succeed. ig Well remember the days of concern, Concern for the teachers of transfer Transferred out of our school, A school where they were needed most. On January 17, 1973 approximately 400 students participated in a peaceful demonstration against the transferring of Mrs. Richardson and Mr. Asakawa. ‘These students protested around the Administration building and other buildings on campus. The remaining 1500 students were in class as usual. Mexican Christmas Fiesta The Mexican Fiesta was held on December 13 in El Centro, Balboa Park. About 200 students from Morse participated in the “Posada”. A Procession of candles was held as they sang from door to door asking for shelter, reliving what had happened hundreds of years ago. The Tigers played some of the best teams in the county and came up on the winning end. The reason for this sudden improvement was Head Coach Shacklett, not neglecting the talents of Coaches Anderson, Arrevelo, ‘Terreto, and Mendoza. The offense was tough. It was led by Ollie Brown in the backfield and Ben Henry on the line. Defense was rough, led by Willis Watley in the backfield and Frankie Hamilton in linebacking and by Peter Smith on the line. Other outstanding players were Reggie Trimble, Fred Lockhart, Ray Morrow, Mark Daniels, Greg Dantzler, Matt Monroe, Willy Wright, Randy Kocher, Archie Amerson, Lew Barrett, Terry Burton and Sherwin Wade. Two years ago Morse had no representative at this meet while this year ten of the twenty-one girls advanced to these all district finals. This year’s team is composed of thirteen sophomores, four juniors, and three seniors. The team is divided into three classifications—A, B, and C according to ability. Morse had strong representation in the C classification and with returning sophomores, Morse should have an even stronger team next year.
