'mb r In 1939 the first ROBERT MORRIS was pub- lished as something of an annual report to the stu- dents, graduates and friends of Morrisville High School. In the eighteen years since that first book made its appearance many changes have been made. The method of printing is different, the size has almost doubled, many more pictures are included and a summer supplement is published to make each report a more complete record of the year. This year we have added a beautiful, full-page color shot of our school so that it can be shown off to its full effect. It is customary for each class to adopt a theme around which its yearbook can be developed. The Class of 1956 has selected a western theme and trust that it helps in making our efforts more readable and more enjoyable. Chiropodist-Morrisville jersey City BOARD Ol-7 EDUCATHON It is customary to honor the Board of Education in the opening section of our yearbook. This year, however, two members were selected in the November elections but at a time when the opening section had already gone to press. Later it became necessary to appoint a new member to fill an unexpired term and again picture-taking was forced to wait. We are proud of these men for the part they play in our school system and we are equally proud of them for the part they play in the daily life that is America. For this reason we have chosen to picture them informally as each pursues his working day. DR. THEODORE A. HANSEN, P7'?.f.id5'7lf DR. JOHN R. WITTEKIND, Vire Prefideflt WILLIAM B. E. L. Caum, Ned Caum, Don White and Robert Hartshorn who sub- mitted a great many of the photographs. Mrs. Dorothy Keller who checked the senior Writeups. Marvin Levitt who supervised the artists. J. Wilber Sauder who helped with the book mark. The teachers who made the long, laborious final check on all group identifications. The Sarony Studios who took our formal pictures as well as many of our groups and were ready to help whenever we called. Walter Allen of the Taylor Yearbook Company who was always only too anxious to cooperate that our book might be a success. And last, but by no means least, our Advertisers whose generosity made the whole thing possible. Like the classes before us we plan to publish a supplement following our graduation. This will include all Spring sports and activities plus a report on our Washington trip and Commencement. We hope you will keep the yearbook and its supplement as a per- manent record of our senior year. Arriving at 10:20 we immediately had our pictures taken in the above pose and then went on to the Roger Smith Hotel which was to be our home for three days. After lunch we toured the Capitol, rode in the Senate subway with Senator Kefauver, visited the Folger Library and the Supreme Court building and then climbed the Washington Monument. Congressman Karl King was our guest at dinner and later we saw Ford's Theatre and the Congressional Library. For our evenings entertainment some of us saw Cinerama Holiday and the rest of us enjoyed Damn Yankees. After a 7:30 A.M. breakfast Tuesday morning, we toured the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, the Smithsonian Institute and finally, the White House. After lunch at the hotel we drove to the Washing- ton Cathedral and the Franciscan Monastery and finished our afternoon at the zoo. Dinner was served at the hotel and then we climbed back into our buses for visits to the Lincoln and jefferson Memorials. Again we divided into groups for our evening's entertainment. Several groups took in the various movies that were showing in town while about fifteen of us went to the Hotel Commodore for an evening's swim. Back at the Roger Smith by midnight, the end of another perfect day. 5 'N fl - NUW7 BUT A Wednesday morning was ours - we were on our own. Some of us slept to catch up on some lost time. Others shopped for souvenirs while others simply took long walks for a look at more of the sights. Lunch. our final meal at the hotel, was something of a birthday party for Bill Bresley. Then, after one long, last look at the good, old Roger Smith, we were off again, this time for the Marines new memorial and the changing of the guard at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We drove through Alexandria and then arrived at Mount Vernon where we spent an hour just walking about the beautiful buildings and grounds. On the way back to Washington we stopped at the National Airport, watched the planes land and take off, did some last minute shopping, and then climbed back into the buses for the ride to the station. What a wonderful way to finish the trip. The train pulled out of Washington at 6 P.M. and a few minutes later we were in the dining car enjoying a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings. And then it was home and who will ever forget the crowd that greeted us as we scrambled off the train, dirty and dead-tired, but anxious to tell anyone who would listen of the grand time we'd had. just one last word of thanks to our chaperones who made it all possible. We'll never forget the hours you spent for us and the experiences we had with you. The trip was wonderful and so were you.
