FOREWORD Beauty is snow-silvered tree tops, Tumbling waterfalls, placid azure blue lakes, Scarlet hued twilights when the sun takes its final bow for the day. Gleaming snowflakes beholding a moon's brilliance, Dripping, drooping willow trees after a summer's deluge. Nature is a sparkling, frolicsome brook, Spring bursting forth in the buds of a crocus, Rhythm of the wind's fingers ruffling the branches of an old oak tree, Shimmering greens, golden yellows, deep browns of patch work farms. Beauty abounds in nature, nature heightens beautyg Hazy mountain views, intricate, delicate weaves of a spider's web, An immense blue sky with dashes of feathery clouds and darts of chickadees, --Fascination for all who heed. The work of nature is manifest in poems, for poets seem to be able to envision beauty in places that we fail to discern. Here in our scenic countryside, our Chenango Valley, our native or adopted land where the best things of life are free, the hurried pace of our lives causes us to ignore the beauty that has been waiting for us since the onset of time. The exotic enchantment of faraway lands, the majestic grandeur of towering peaks, the ancient relics of lost civilizations attract multitudes of tourists. But should they contemplate the wonder of their own environment, perhaps the rhythm and contour of landscapes, our own scenic attractions would become better appreciated.
