SENIOR CLASS HISTORY It all happened way back ln September 1948. The sun was shining, the flowers were blooming, and the birds were singing as some Freshmen entered the halls of the distinguished Klnard University, which was to be our home for the next four years. What confusion there was that first week! We went to the wrong class at the wrong time, left our books straying behind, and forgot where our home room was. By the end of that week we were all ready to give up in dispair. Was this what others had called an enjoyable school atmosphere? Well, it soon became one. In no time at all we learned a few short cuts and were acting like old veterans. We could even play the innocent Freshman when t rouble was brewing and the teachers came around. By now we were well enough acquainted to elect class officers which were: President, Frank Shannong Vice-President, Mike B aro nakg Secretary, Mary Hummelg and Treasurer, Alva Swales. The hlghllght of the year was that dreaded Initiation P a rty given by the Sophomores. But we stlll enjoyed lt and ln showing our appreciation gave them a Return Party. Other actlvltles included skatlng parties and our c las s play The Awkward Pause under the co-direction of Mrs. Skelton and Miss Kucharskl, our class advisors. Just when we were beglnnlng to enjoy things, final exams appeared and then report cards! I I I Vacation soon came to a close and we came back to the university, only this time as Sophisticated Sophomores. Immediately we elected class officers as follows: President, Frank Shannon 5 Vice-Pre ldent, Mike Baronakg Secretary, Leroy Gresllckg and Treasurer, Alva Swales. The boys surely stuffed the ballot box this year!! Class activities consisted of members being elected to the newspaper staff, a few glrls' basketball games, and our class play Desperate Ambrose under the co- dlrectlon of Mr . kelton and Miss Kucharskl. As Jolly Juniors we really flt the description. At our flrst class meeting we elected Jean Hanyak as President, Ida Mae Roberts, Vice-President, Theresa Wesesky, Secretary, and Mary Hummel, Treasurer. Now we see where the weaker sex took over this yearl ll The year was very successful. Highlighting it were the Junior-Senior Prom held at the Phlllp burg Country Club and, of course, our annual class play. This time lt was A Stranger ln the Night under the co-direction of Mrs. Skelton and Miss Smith, our class advisors. Topping off the schedule was the exciting Washing- ton trip.
