LEE HODSON, ’30 VOLUME VII PUBLISHED BY THE STUDENT BODY MORRIS HARVEY COLLEGE BARBOURSVILLE W. VA. TUb jpr 1929 Harveyan ?SRRd 37I 7 4 -!£6Z- Dedication In recognition of his loyalty to Morris Harvey College, and of his faithful service to the school and its students as Pro- fessor of Psychology and Dean of the College for a period of thirteen years, the Staff respectfully dedicates the 1929 Harveyan to DEAN HARRY F. TOOTHMAN % r . y f j l Foreipord In the 1929 Harveyan we have looked forward to the rise of a greater Morris Harvey College. We have also looked backward to note how far up the road of progress we have come and have drawn a cross section of one year of the transition between the old and the new. We have paused for a while to view the campus and its many activities. We trust that we have suc- ceeded in carrying out these aims. ROBERT H. RUFF President of the College A.B., A.M., Millsaps College; B.D., Emory University; Graduate Student Uni- versity of Chicago and Columbia University; D.D., Kentucky Wesleyan College. Morris Harvey College is fortunate in having its destiny entrusted to a man of the splendid character and the superb training of Dr. Ruff. Since he came to Barboursville the College has entered upon a period of expansion and progress. A tremendous and sound building program has been outlined, adopted, and put into operation. By his friendly attitude towards the College constituency and his co-o peration with the Board of Trust he has been instrumental in bringing about a new era in the hi tory of the school. That his policies shall be continued is shown by the fact that he has been elected president of the College for another year. Page 21 F. P. This is shown by the many important offices he has held. As president of the student body the popularity he gained in his Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years has not been lost. This is a feat diffi- cult to accomplish. MADALYN M. BRADFORD Huntington, W. Va. Debating Club. Marshall College Summer Schools of 1924 to 1928; Morris Harvey 1928-1929; Presi- dent of Debating Club 1928-1929. Mrs. Bradford exhausted the learning and opportunities offered at Marshall be- fore she decided to cast her lot at Morris Harvey. She has made a splendid record during the time she has been here. In addition to being a good student she has also proved to be a capable debater. Page 29 MERLE ELLEN CALFEE Gassaway, W. Va. He has no reason to be ashamed of his record at Morris Harvey. MARY CHRISTINE FISHER Charleston, W. Va. Alpha Mu Scarritt College 1 ; Life Service Group, Secretary 2, 3; Y. W. C. If we were to describe one of “Spider’s ' chief traits in his college career, we should use the word “versatility. In addition to his regular scholastic work he has found time to devote to athletics, fraternities, clubs, and publications. Last, but not least, he is the president of our class. MELBA BLAKE FRANTZ Oak Hill, W. Va. Maryland College for Women 1 ; New River State College 2, 3; Morris Harvey College 4. New River State’s loss was Morris Harvey’s gain when she decided to cast her lot with us. We are of one accord in believing that she is a charming, in- telligent, and capable life-partner for our president. We are glad to have her graduate with our class. Pac;e 32 JUDGE L. We have one ‘‘Judge’ ' in our class, although he is not a member of the bar. He is one of the ministers of our class and is noted for his Huent speech and stately gestures. He is able to lead chapel or preside over an audience with great ease. MATTIE SHIPLEY McNEER Alderson, W. Va. Alpha Mu Debating Club. Basketball; Alpha Mu, Treasurer 3; Phi Delta Literary Society; Alderson Junior College, Summer of 1928. Mattie has been a faithful person on our campus and it would seem rather odd not to see her here. In the Alpha Mu Sorority she is rated high by her sisters. In every way she is a McNeer and has it on her brother, “Mac”, when it comes to making a speech. Page 33 ETHA E. NASH B ARBOURSVILLE, W. V A. Rural Life Club. Teacher in Barboursville High School 4; President of Rural Life Club 3; Member of Rural Life Club 4. Miss Nash is another member of our class of whom we have reason to be proud.
