l l T xl' f.,-r - A V..-, , ETHEL WATTS Dean of Girls Assistant Direcfvrs Emerson wrote, Jewels are not gifts, but apolo- gies for gifts. The only gift is a portion of thy- self. The gift Emerson describes comes from the heart. Money cannot buy it . . . and it is priceless in its power to purchase happiness for both the recipient and the giver. Your Chief is an example of the art of giving since the staff members have given themselves in its preparation for your enjoyment. Let us all be equally willing to contribute so that M.C.H.S. will reflect a happier way of living. Let us give in a friendly spirit since the spirit is as important as the gift itself. Let us make our gifts timely as too often we let the moment pass when it is within our power to give some person happiness. And let Us give with enthusiasm because warmth of personality often means more than the words we say. PARMER O. REED lfii: it viii THINK-LEARN-WORK Your individual success in life will depend largely upon your desire to THINK clearly, LEARN abun- dantly, and WORK willingly. In this mortal life you cannot reach upward far enough to touch the top rung of the ladder of success. This does not mean you cannot climb the ladder. You can if you desire to keep on learning. In school and on the iob the feast of learning is spread in front of you. Be hungry, and fatten your minds. Each of you must work for a living. Competi- tion will be keen and at times the going will be rough. You will meet with a succession of chal- lenges. Make your bodies and minds capable of meeting these challenges! Meet them with smiles and a cheerful determination, for without them you are like pieces of steel rusting in the moist earth! it F iii- itil .l...i.i ,i AI itil , il' ii Assistant Principal Qgwgf,-LAT X !
