Page Tizefity-two t'IiASS HISTORY Slowly, very slowly, lest we should miss something, we wander back over the years to a day, the day when we entered school. So proud were we of our first school books and pencils! What a day when we could write not only our names but cal, dog, rat, and even feoelrerl Then when we could tell time-could there be any greater joy? We were very easy to please in those days, it took so little to make us happy. With our valentines, Hallowe'en and Christmas parties, we were quite content. On we went, learning, and then we entered Junior High School. Here we were confronted with the problem of pleasing not one teacher but five or six. This proved a new experience for us. What a task! But after we 'teaught on, it was simple and a lot of fun. Then came the second big red letter day in our lives-our eighth grade graduation. After having received our diplomas, we realized that eight years of happy school days holding dear memories were stored in the past. On a September day, we, the class of 1940, entered high school. Such a welcome as we received! Many of us were caught in the wrong room after second bell. Sometimes, during the first week, we were caught on the wrong stairs while hurrying to class. But we learned quickly. The upperclassmen called us Hgreen freshmen but we could take it. The first social event of the season was a mixer held in OUR honor. After that it wasn't so bad: basketball, football, and baseball games. mixers, the Pep Club dance and banquet, and our freshman picnic. Our studies, together with social events, kept us very busy. After a welcome summer vacation, we returned to M. H. S. to take up our studies where we had left them the year before. This time we weren 't frivolous freshmen but sagacious sophomores! This year it was part of our duty to make the freshmen as thoroughly uncomfortable as was humanly possible. Many of our boys were recognized as born athletes and some of them really did our class honor. Among other things, our picnic, Pep tllub activities, sports and mixers took up the greater portion of our time. We enjoyed ourselves a great deal and were just a little sorry when vacation eame. Another vacation gone and we returned to enter our junior year. We were thoroughly at home by this time, and since we had discovered just how much effort to spend 011 our studies to Hget by, we devoted most of our time to get- ting all the enjoyment out of this year that we possibly could. By this time some of the boys were outstanding players on the basketball and football teams. We honored the seniors with a banquet and dance and gave a play, Radio Rescue. Our last year in school loomed up all too soon! We elected officers, edited the year book, edited the Em-Ili. took part in the All School Play, Seven Sisters. and we1'e royally entertained by the juniors. Then we prepared for the climaxing activity of our high school career, graduation. Measuring for caps and gowns, choosing and ordering invitations and cards, and rehearsing our class night activities kept us busy during the last month of school. On the night of June 5, 1940, we graduated. The most that we can say is, to quote from the once popular song, Ah, Well, It Was Swell While lt Lasted!
