JAMES LEON MIOTT 1949-1987 The untimely passing of James Leon Miott on August 16, 1987, marked the conclusion of nine years of unparalled services to Morris College as instructor in Music and Director of the Morris College Chorale. Mr. Miott was highly respected for his dedication to his work, his thorough, well prepared lessons, and his matchless thirst for music. He passed on to the Morris College Family a legacy of a lifelong thirst for learning, and undaunted commitment to excellence, a sincere love for and appreciation of people — especially students, a deep willingness to share fully his talents with others, and a firm example of practical Christian living. The College family members who were privileged to know him will ever appreciate the stoutness of his heart, the richness of his soul and his love for music and for mankind. Death is not sad ... its a time for elation, A joyous transition ... the soul's emigration Into a place where the soul's safe and free. To he with God through eternity. Helen S. Rice

Richardson PRESIDENT THE FOUNDING OF MORRIS COLLEGE IN 1908 WAS NOT JUST A GLORIFIED DREAM BUT A BOLD. INGENIOUS VENTURE WHICH ITS LOYAL SUPPORTERS HAVE KEPT ALIVE FOR 80 YEARS. DURING THE COURSE OF ITS HISTORY. THE CHALLENGES AND COMPLEXITIES WHICH GROWTH BROUGHT TESTED THE COLLEGE’S SURVIVAL. HOWEVER THIS FACT IS CLEARLY DIS-CERNABLE — THE CHALLENGES AND COMPLEXITIES WERE ALWAYS MET WITH EQUAL STRENGTH. ADDED VISION AND DEEP CONVICTION. THUS. IN THE 80th YEAR OF ITS EXISTENCE. AS WE REFLECTED ON THE NOBLE HISTORY OF MORRIS COLLEGE. WE FELT A STRONGER TIE WITH THE PAST. WHICH ACCENTED THE PRESENT. AND INSPIRED US TO MOVE TOWARD EVEN GREATER TOMORROWS. THE loss YEARBOOK IS. 'THEREFORE, AN ATTEMPT TO LINK THE PRESENT WITH THE PAST THROUGH WORDS AND PICTURES. NOTWITHSTANDING WENDT’S WARNING THAT BOTH ... art merely surrogates for reality, not reality itself.
