Dedication By I'ailli and Faith alone We are justified. But Faith must be “up and doing.” This la mo us biblical paraphasc must have inspired The Woman's Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina to pray deeply, wish sincerely, and work untiringly to push the work of the organization forward. This is the organization that played a vital role in the growth and development of Morris College for sixty years. Organized April 2, IS88 by eleven women in Zion Baptist Church, Columbia, South Carolina, the convention's purposes were to promote Christian education, and home and foreign mission. Since organizing, the convention has been led by six strong and diligent leaders: I) Mrs. Fannie E. Davis of Columbia. S.C. (1888-1807); 2) Mrs. M.J. Rayon of Charleston, S.C. (1897-1903); 3) Mrs. R.E. Robinson of Grccvnillc. S.C. (1903-1904); 4) Mrs. Cora S. Bovin of Camden. S.C. (1004-1022); 5) Mrs. Connie N. Jones of Charleston, S.C. and Dr. Mable Keith Howard of Darlington. S.C. The Convention is presently under the leadership of Dr. Mary C. Wliitncr of Laurens. S.C. The convention takes on a special project for Morris College each year. Among precious gifts and major contributions from the convention to Morris College are Dobbin-Kcilh Hall (1913), the Dean’s cottage (1934). Mable K. Howard Building (1954). the sponsoring of an annual summer camp at Morris College to give youth training during the summer in Christian education and recreational activities, and a donation of fifty-thousand dollars on the endowment of the college. The convention has also contributed a considerable amount of books to the library, including the first Negro collection, and is piesently sponsoring a drive for twenty-five thousand dollars for books to the library. These contributions were made under the leadership of various presidents, but these presidents had an able body of dedicated Christian women behind the scenes who worked diligently to make these contributions. It is impractical to mention the names of all these women, for they would occupy numerous pages. We therefore feel keenly obliged to say. that for sharing in the total development and progress of Morris College for sixty years, and lor the pride in being a part of the great cultural heritage which is ours, the student body of Morris College proudly salutes the entire Woman's Baptist Education and Missionary Convention of South Carolina in dedicating to you the 1969 Edition of the Morris College Hornet. 4 The Student Body
