This edition of the Hornet is dedicated to a young man who is deeply concerned with the Forward Look. This concern did not build up overnight. Mr. James Lewis Solomon, Jr. present Professor of Mathematics, adviser to the Student Council and the only Negro in the graduate school of Mathematics at our own University of South Carolina, paved his way through the highway of progress and is looking forward to receiving his Ph.D. from this university. Mr. Solomon came to Morris College as an advanced Freshman, received his first degree in Chemistry; still looking forward he pursued study at Atlanta University for his Masters degree in Mathematics after working hard to receive a scholarship to that effect. As any good citizen, he served his normal term in the United States Air Force where he held a position in Mechanics. He worked in the Sumter County school system before coming back to his beloved Alma Mater. He is considered as THE MASTER MAN OF MORRIS COLLEGE, by most of the members of the Morris College family. He worked hard with the Student Council here because it reminded him of his work as a student. Prior to other achievements he wrote the Constitution while holding the office of President of the Student Council, there are many other deeds that cannot be mentioned. Mrs. Helen Solomon and their three children lift their head along with us and look forward for the next step. We, the members of the 1964 Hornet's Staff, do hope that he will achieve his ultimate goal. We know that whatever he does he will carry Morris College in his thoughts in 9 this Forward Look.

FOREWORD We live a progressive age known more scientifically as the space age. To survive in the pace age there must be progress and to progress is to move forward. As you peer through the pages of this yearbook we, the members of the 1964 Hornet’s Staff, hope that you will have the spirit of the Forward Look. We wish to thank each member of the staff for his contribution in making this venture a success. No one contribution can be considered as most important, the entire group’s efforts were necessary to make this yearbook one of the best in the history of Morris College. ALMA MATER Morris our college dear With hearts all filled with cheer We come to thee Throughout life's checkered ways Thy name we'll ever praise Teachers of youthful ways All hail to thee. When from our homes we came To own thy lofty name Breathe courage free Parents and teachers dear Calmed by the lack of fear Pay homage through the years All hail to thee.
