With all of the organizations, sports, and other activities Morris has to offer, there was always something to do. As we walked along the path of education, we were relieved to find that education is more than work; it is participation in many different aspects of school life that go together to give us a better understanding of the life the world has to offer. Our theme is Morris Central Scrapbook. We want to present an accu- rate representation of school life here at MCS. This year's yearbook is dedicated to capturing what we like and do the best. Barbara, Heather, and Sharon waiting in the hall. A rousing third grade game of scooter ball. The girls' ensemble practicing for the Christmas season. All students here really get into work. They love courses that give homework (under one assignment). Our teach- ers make learning fun — at times. Our sports are truly a favorite among our students. Everyone participates in some way. Every game is highlighted, and it becomes a great event at our school. Our music department draws a lot of interest. Our numerous bands and choruses are respected throughout the school and the community. And, as the years progress, the classes become more interesting, the choices are wider, and we become better prepared for the world we live in. Opening - 3 It has been a great year. Everyday that went by brought us closer to June; we all felt it, and it showed. This year was spent living, learning, and sharing the experiences of MCS with each other. We all hoped to gain a lasting knowledge of the world and to use it for a better life. As you browse through this Scrapbook today and in the weeks and years to come and as you read about the students at MCS this year and as you read what your friends said as they wrote on these pages, reflect on what this school, this community, and these people mean to you. Best of Luck in the Future. Eighth Grade Colonial Breakfast. A care Bear-alias Kevin Meredith Mr. Hanks and Mrs. Shumway having a quick conference. DEDICATIONS Mrs. Ethel Perkins Mr. Goodier is saying good-bye to MCS after 25 years here. He is on his way to bigger and better things, but we'll all miss his contributions over these past years to our school. The aroma of his pipe will linger in the halls of MCS for years to come. For fifteen years Mrs. Perkins has been making sixth grade a great place to be. Her dedication to the Safety Patrol program, her skill as a teacher, and her willingness to be a friend makes her one of the greatest teachers at Morris Central School. Mr. Elwyn Spiel Goodier Dedications — 5 ADMINISTRATION The MCS administra- tion is a team of educa- tors and citizens that work together to achieve a system of education and a school environment that will help the students prepare for their futures. All of the per- sonnel, no matter which offices they occupy, are dedicated to the stu- dents. Our school student body thanks each of them. Mr. Hanks, Principal; Mr. Barden, Superintendent Administration — 7 STAFF Aides: Mrs. Phillips Mrs. McWilliams Mrs. Kodrich Mrs. Meyers Mrs. Skoglund Mrs. Collison Mrs. Winters Mrs. Turnbull Mrs. Elliott Without our staff we could never function properly. (What could we do without them?!) Our aides are always there, ready, willing and able to help with any problem that comes up. We could never do without our sanitation engineers . Although there were no real stars on the team, everyone worked together and became a powerful, respected team. Mrs. Zeiner said, There was no one spectacular feature of the team-- everything was good from serving to setting to spiking. The girls worked every night for IV2 hours to perfect every aspect of the game, and all of the work paid off. M. Gleussner, L. Randall, C. Cozzolino, P. Stewart, P. Vaun, Coach Zeiner, C. Dill. In that game we worked our pants off! 70-Volleyball JV VOLLEYBALL The JV Volleyball team, although a young and unexperienced group, did quite well this year. The girls finished with a 1-6 record, but they went up against more experienced teams and held their own with the best of them. The stu- dents in the band are unique because they are able to play a style of music they cannot in the traditional band setting. The band practices after school and puts in a lot of overtime to perfect their music for upcoming concerts, which consist of both in-school and community functions. They also practice music for competition at Sherburne and other places. I broke my leg, and I can't play the Sax. 82 - Organizations GIRLS’ ENSEMBLE BRASS ENSEMBLE Front: V. Pickens, ). Lull, E. They're marching in the wrong direction. N. Cameron —Twirler A small but mighty band participated in many events this past summer. The marching season was highlighted by first place wins in Schenevus and at Whitney Point. The marching season begins with our Memorial Day Celebrations in Morris, but the first big event is the An- nual Sherburne Pageant of Bands. From that time on, many graduating seniors retire , and the rest of the mu- sicians and marchers regroup and carry on. Kelly Sullivan is our Drum Majorette. She is the one who directs the marching band, and this past marching season was her first year on the job. She received first place awards at Richfield Springs and at the State Fair Competition. Great Job, Kelly. This year the band is looking forward to a successful marching season with our new band director, Mr. Spena. 87-Marching Band RENAISSANCE FAIRE Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today . . . This year the eleventh grade Major British Authors class tried something different. They were studying the Renaissance time period when their student teacher. Miss Debbie Budelman, suggested that the class should coordinate a Renais- sance Faire so the entire school could learn about this great period in history. So, under the direction of Miss Budelman, the class prepared for one of the biggest events of the school year. Everything went together perfectly, and when the class was ready; so was the student body. The Faire was enjoyed by students and teachers, alike. But everyone learned about the Renaissance dress, architecture, combat suits and fighting techniques, food, writing, and literature. Cheerio, Good Chap! 88 - Renaissance SPEECH DEBATE FHA-HERO Our Speech and De- bate team, though relatively new, has already proven itself by winning two slots at the National Speech tourna- ment in Cincinnati. Competition on the circuit is tough, but our team has shown they can keep up with the best. The Morris chapter of the FHA-HERO program is going strong. This or- ganization emphasizes leadership and decision- making. These are im- portant qualities that are intended to direct members to a brighter future. They do many things to help the com- munity as well as themselves. Sitting: V. Pickens, C. Rendo, R. Veres. Kneeling: ). Lobdell, P. Murphy, L. Tiffany, B. Brown, ). Osterhout. Stand- ing: E.
