Morris Central School Morris, New York Two Teachers Honored for Years of Service Mrs. Frances Cerra The graduating class wishes to dedicate the 1974 MORRISANIAN to Mrs. Frances Cerra in gratitude for thirteen years of service to Morris Central School as an elementary teacher. We will long remember her dedication and kindness as she helped us prepare for our future years in and out of school, and we offer her our warmest wishes for many more happy years. Miss Marie Flo The Class of 1974 also extends special recognition to Miss Marie Flo, who retired last year after twenty-nine years as school librarian. We belatedly thank her for her long dedication to MCS and its stu- dents, and wish her a happy and peaceful retire- ment. 2 ADMINISTRATION Administrators Face New Problems in 1974 The administration carries numerous responsibilities, all necessary for the efficient operation of the school. The 1973-74 school year brought school officials even greater problems: spiraling costs, fuel and supply shortages, and construction delays. Through it all, however, MCS administrators - Mr. Ryther, Mr. Rollins, and Mr. Bro- drick - found time to offer a friendly greeting or listen to another problem. WARREN RYTHER, Supervising Principal THOMAS ROLLINS, Administrative Ass’t. and Guidance Counselor JOHN BRODRICK, Elementary Supervisor 4 BOARD OF EDUCATION Jerome Payton, President Percy Cameron John Matteson Jeanne Guller Lynn Harris Mr. Brodrick and Mrs. Tremlett speak to elementary students awaiting their next class. 1974 Brings New Gym Addition to MCS This year saw the completion of the new gymnasium addition. Con- struction difficulties had delayed completion until January, forcing the meeting of gym classes in the balcony, the use of other practice facilities, and the rescheduling of home games. The new year brought the finishing touches with the paint- ing of a larger basketball court and the installation of new bleachers. The new gym provides an additional area of 2035 square feet and a dou- bled seating capacity. Two separate teaching facilities may be created by drawing a net partition. 6 FACULTY Mrs. Barbara Coady Mrs. Erwina Dutcher Mrs. Candy Torrey Mrs. Norma Boyd Mrs. Bertha George Mrs. Dorothy Payton Mrs. Elinor Tremlett Mrs. Ethel Perkins Mr. Alan Holcombe Mrs. Frances Cerra Mrs. Ruth Ryder Mrs. Judy Weisberger 10 Mr. Robert Smith Mrs. Marilyn Crumb Mrs. Marion Dodge Mrs. Joyce Foote Mrs. Sophie Dixson Mr. Peter Case ii Juniors STANDING: D. FRONT: W. Balbuena, J. Miller. Comprised primarily of sopho- mores and freshmen, the 1973 football team was handicapped by its youth and inexperience. Despite the team’s difficulties, many individuals had impressive seasons. Coach Leahy com- mended the efforts of the team's only seniors, Joe Miller and Bill Balbuena, pointing out Joe's con- tributions on defense and offense. With the exception of the two seniors, however, the entire team should return next year for what promises to be an improved season, and Coach Leahy looks to several returning lettermen for continued good performances on the field. Coach Leahy sends Jim Laubmeier (82) into the game as Brian Bronson (60) and Phil Utter (40) wait on the sidelines. Coach Moriarty stands by 56 . - -y MCS defenders make goal-line stand against New Berlin. Kelly Collier prepares to pass to Laubmeier (82) for an important gain. McNamee, K. Littlewood. Cross Country, the newest sport at MCS, had a highly successful first season. Losing only one meet to Edmeston, the team compiled a fine 7-1 dual meet record. Leading Mustang runners were seniors Keith Littlewood and Mark Enders, each having won a race. Morris also won the Tri-Valley Champion- ship Race held at S. U. C., Oneonta. The Mustang runners captured 4 of the top 8 places, and were led by second-place finisher Keith Littlewood. Coach Flyzik views next year as a building year,' ’ with six of his top seven runners graduating in June, but hopes that with some hard work Morris may continue its supremacy on the course. 58 XOSTANG' 'mustangs IUSTANg; rfUSTAWS fevA vS S Junior High Boys Compete in Football and Basketball TOP TO BOTTOM: J. Fine shooting and a tough man-to-man defense combined to make Coach Moriarty's Mus- tangs one of the area's best teams. Bryan Gorsira held high- scoring honors, and netted an incredible 50 points against Franklin. Kevin Collier proved formidable on defense and offense, backed by the talents of teammates Joe Miller, Dave Wilber, and Bill Balbuena. In a season shortened by poor weather, the 1973 baseball team won the T-V East title with a 7-1 record. For the first time ever, a Morris baseball team entered sectional play-offs. With this in mind, the staff of the 1974 MORRISANIAN set out to make the year's annual truly unique. New layout designs were the most marked change, although a revamped faculty section, narrative headings, and certain special effects contributed to the new look. Producing a yearbook is no easy task, however, and staff members worked long and diligently to com- plete the many necessary jobs. The staff mem- bers and advisor hope that their efforts have made 1974 a year to remember. D. J. Campfield holds the cropper” in place as Chris Brooks marks a photograph. BACK TO FRONT: D.
