C ' - V ' xr 2w . - - at. 4 foreword June, 1964, marks the culmination of thir- teen years spent in varying degrees of work and play, all designed to prepare us to be un- leashed upon society. Throughout these, our school years, we have gained interests and friendships that will influence us for the rest of our lives, and in doing so have sustained experiences that will afford us many memo- ries, for the most part pleasant ones. The Morrisanian staff has attempted to capture some of the essence of our school days in the hope that your yearbook, in the years to come, will help you recall some of the things that have made our years at Morris Central happy ones. Principal's Message Each successive year finds a different group of high school seniors at the threshold of a new era in their lives. Formal secondary school training for you, the class of 1964, Morris Central School, is at an end, and you are now facing new and challenging years ahead. For many, the pursuit of higher education will require more intensive studies in new en- vironments where you will rely on your own initiative, perseverance, and determination to find success. For others, a training period in some branch of the military service will re- quire similar effort on your part. Those of you who become employed will also face multiple responsibilities. Your success in any of these ventures may well depend on how your high school training combined with your ambition, talents, and re- sourcefulness has prepared you. I challenge you to set your goals high and be prepared to keep pace with the rapid changes of the times. Warren Ryther, Principal We, the class of 1964, dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Raymond Clement with great admiration and respect for his years of devoted service to Morris Central School, its athletic program, and the Tri-Valley League. yearbook Staff SENIOR Eileen Dodge Paul Kogut Georgianna Snethen Howard Elliott Pat Lull Subscriptions Advertising Business Manager Editor Photography Mr. Zoch Advisor JUNIOR Peggy Knickerbocker James Palmer Pat Molloy John Matteson Julie Elliott Barbara Peggy In con° frrr • A. ‘ w X' « () yV •; r . . - yi - T ,, V.W mr lr ' d — v ir 1 - — r- - - L — A ' . . . __V — X • Hoard of £ ducat ion Mr. Harold Tyson District Superintendent Dr. Payton Mrs. Elliott President Poling Mr Hyde Mr. Sherman Mrs. Shirley Knapp School Secretary Cafeteria Mrs. Wright Mrs. Peterson Mrs. Beardsley Custodians Mr. Card Mr. Gregory Mr. Goodier Bus Drivers Mr. Card Mr. Goodier Mr. Quintin Mr. Brimmer Mr. Harris Mr. Lull Mr. McWilliams Mr. Thresher Mr. Wassenaar Hoard of £ ducat ion LeRoy Poling, President Jerome Payton Keith Matteson Alma Elliott Raymond Hyde OFFICERS OF THE BOARD Everett Sherman Clerk Jane Knickerbocker Treasurer Rose Wright Collector Dr. Joseph Phelps School Physician DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT Harold Tyson, Unadilla, New York faculty Warren B. Williams Tallies 3; Morris Wins Morris Central, paced by Ja- mey Williams, rolled over South New Berlin, 27-6, in a Tri-Val- ley inter-league eight man loot- ball game Saturday. Williams had a field day for the Morris club. He scored three touchdowns and one extra point and rolled up 139 yards of the Morris 337 yard total. Williams scored from 30 yards out, from one yard and from the 14 in his great afternoon, best he’s ever had at Morris ac- cording to coach John Dimao. Paul Kogut scored from the seven in the fourth quarter for Morris. Doug George had scored two extra points for Morris and gained 40 yards rushing before being injured and removed from the game in the second quarter. Jim Palmer, P:oyce Webster and Dan Nichols were magnifi- cent for Morris on defense. Paul Piatti scored the South- town touchdown in the last quar- ter after Morris hobbled a pass from center and the ball was recovered on the Morris three. Morris 7 7 7 6—27 South New Berlin 0 0 0 0—6 Morris Nips Gilbertsville In Thriller GILBERTSVILLE - Morris nudged into the Tri-Valley football league winner's circle Friday, but it wasn’t easy. Morris nipped a stubborn Gil- bertsville team, 7-6, in a thriller which saw both teams lose scores on penalties and Morris stop a Gilbertsvile drive in the dying seconds. Both dubs scored in the third period, Morris when Howie Elliott got away for a 50 yard touchdown sprint. Doug George added the point which turned out to be the margin of victory. A blocked kick by Rex Briscoe set up the Gilbertsville tally a few plays later. Carl Lindberg's 10 yard run put the home-towners on the scoreboard. Bill Stone’s interception of a Gilbertsville pass with about a minute left save the game for the winners as G’ville had what appeared to be a potential winning drive under way. The game, clean and hard fought throughout, was featured by 6ome great defensive play on the part of Gilbertsville’s Wayne Benjamin who proved almost unstoppable all day. Gilbertsville 0 0 6 0—6 Morris 0 0 7 0—7 Morris Cops Tri-V alley Title Edmeston Nudges Morris9 6-0 MORRIS — The high-powered Edmeston eight-man football team ran up against a stubborn Morris club here Saturday but escaped with a 6-0 Tri-Valley East victory. Bruce MacDonald’s Edmeston team got a touchdown in the first period when John York ran over from the five and then fought for dear life the rest of the way to hold the margin. Two Morris drives were stalled inside the Ed 13 by fumbles, a scoring pass was hobbled in the clear and a touchdown was rubbed out by a fumble in the Edmeston end zone. But it wasn't all luck. Edmeston played a good sound football game FRANKLIN and Morris went at each other no-holds-barred in the day s most exciting game and when the smoke cleared Morris had finally found its offense for a 34-19 win. Morris has been solid on defense all year but injuries have hobbled the offense. But yesterday, with a boost from the defense. Morris got rolling. Jamie Williams opened the scor- ing for Morris by going over from the 20 midway through the first period. Williams added the point. The defense took a hand when Dan Nicholas intercepted a Frank lin pass and went over from the 26 in the second period. Franklin never quite recovered from this shot although they pushed over a touchdown of their own in the sec- ond when Clint Robinson passed to Bill Noif for a counter. .Morns recovered a Franklin ►fumb.e on the first play of the • second half and went on to score • hen Paul Kogut raced 20 yards to paydirt and then skirted end for uie point. Kogut passed to Howie Elliott in the fourth period to top a long Morris drive and Doug George paced by John Nutt who picked up 60 of Edmestons 165 yards total rushing. The winners madej but seven yards through the air. j Morris was outrushed, getting a total of 123 yards along the ground but outgained Edmeston 34-7 in passing yardage. Jamie Williams picked up 31 of the Morris ground j yards. The large crowd delighted coaches and school officials and indicates a swing to more Tri-[ Valley football being played on i Saturday afternoon. Spectators were stacked three and four deep; all around the field. Edmeston Morris 6000-6. 000 0—0 scored the extra point. Scrappy Franklin, far from through for the day, scored a few plays later on a dandy pass from Robinson to Ken Taylor who made a great catch to complete a 40- yard scoring play. Ralph Sitts tacked on the point. .Franklin, still battling, tried an onside kick on the ensuing kick- off but Morris’s Royce Webster alertly grabbed the oval and ran it over for a 40-yard touchdown sprint. Williams added the point. Franklin scored again before it was over on a neat march fea- tured by Tommy Bryden’s passes to Noif and Taylor. Sitts ran it over from the one. Morris 7 6 7 14—34 Franklin 0 6 0 13—19 Sturdy Defense Halts Spirited Franklin, 25-0 MORRIS — A hard-hitting and swift-running Mar- ris Central eight man football team swept past Franklin, 25-0, Saturday to win the Tri-Valley West champion-1 ’ ship. Morris Club Too Speedy For Edmeston MORRIS—Speed was the story Saturday as Morris scored with two minutes left in the first half, then hit again with two minutes left in the game to sweep Edmes- ton 12-0 in a Tri-Valley East foot- ball contest. Outweighed, the Morris squad displayed superior speed against the bigger but slower Edmeston players. They actu« LTy scored the first time they °.ad the ball on a 60 yard run by quarterback Paul Kogut. only to have the TD nul- lified by a penalty. The first score, late in the sec- ond quarter, came on a 30 yard pass play. Kogut to Howie Elliotr, and the final touchdown came on a 15 yard run by Jamie Williams. The win moved Moms, with a 2-1 record, info first place in the division. Edmeston has a 1 won; 1 tied, and 1 lost record. Morris 0 6 0 6—121 Ildmeston 0 0 0 0—0 Hard tackling produced thm Franklin fumbles in the second period and Morris turned every one into a touchdown as Jamej. Williams crossed the Frankia goal line three times. Franklin's Nat Drayton and Ralph Sitts were held completely ‘ in check by the hard-charginj Morris eight which also inter- cepted three Franklin passes and held the losers outside the Mor- ris 20 all day. Morris scored all its points it the first half after which Franfc lin’s defense stiffened. Morris to the Franklin four in the second half but couldn’t get across goal line. Jim Palmer and Dan Nichok paced the Morris defense wbiri dominated the game. Morris marched 58 yards 2 the first quarter to open ta scoring. John Pegg tallied ft six-pointer and tacked on iie a tra point. Bill Wright, Sam Jacobs, Tom Dugan, Gary Somerville, Del Hoag. Dick Hess, Brian Shampnois, Jim Palmer and Mr. Griesmer, Roy Gunther and Mike Finneran Billy Hoag Wrestling Wrestling was added to the winter sports program at our school this year. The team competed in nine dual matches and one tournament. The Morris grap- plers won two of their matches and three of our boys finished fourth in a tournament held in Oxford. Although the overall team record was not impres- sive, there were some individual standouts. The team loses only one boy and thus will have a fairly strong nucleus returning next year. Wrestling should become one of the major sports at our school in the coming years.
