7)arsiiu 7v f e 7earn '61-'62 The Varsity Rifle Team began its second year with the largest group ever out for the sport. Return- ing lettermen from last year's squad are Brent Cobb, James Matteson, Timothy Fay, Robert Bellott, and Eric Shields. Chet Gunther also returned to the squad. New members this year are James Middaugh, Thomas Knapp, Lee Peters, and Donald Joy. A J. V. group of Stanton Swartfiguer, Jon DeLong, Dana Harrington, and Peter Stafford was formed this year as part of a building program for the future varsity. Mr. Knapp joined Mr. Kodrich in coaching the teams. With the season less than half over new records for the Morris Team have been established. Jim Matteson has the individual high for the second year in a row; a neat 229. For the second year in a row Bob Bellott established a perfect score; this time, seated with 50. Brent Cobb has the top individual average of 220 as compared to last years 210 by Greg Smith. To date the team has fired 8 interscholastic matches and has established a record of 6 wins and 2 defeats. Ten matches remain on the schedule. The biggest victory to date was the team's defeat of Deposit, the defending Section 4 Champions. Teams on this year's schedule are; Norwich, Windsor, Schenevus, Deposit, Walton, Bainbridge, Otego, McGraw, and Cincinnatus.
