.. Y. -.wwf-1 The Class of 1955 Its trials, its tribulations, its accomplishments- As Freshmen ' - The school building did not look to be quite as big. We had arrived! Each day was the fourth of Ju-ly! To speed things up-on the evening of October 24, 1951, we journeyed to the Palomar to put ourselves on wheels and still maintain our equilibrium. . . Then the class of '54' deflated us. Our costumes and our actions were for a day dictated by the Sophs . On January 19, 1952 we returned good for evil honoring the second year people with a dance. . Soon the year ended and we were no longer the school infants. As Sophomores -D The first order of business was to impress the class of 1956 with our importance. Therefore we proceeded to initiate the freshmen, an event which took place in October of 1952. Our election of officers for the year was as follows: President, Alfred Smakalg Vice-Presi- dent, .Tack Roodg Secretary, Virgil Hankinsong Treasurer, Virginia Carr, Class Sponsor, Miss Nancy Shannon. The social events for the year for us were: A dance January 19, 1953 fthe first one in the new Gymnasiumj and a hay ride and party at the Hankinson home. As Juniors TBy this time we began to think of matters financial, and were astounded to find out S150 in the class treasury. Our class officers were duly selected as follows: President, Alfred Smakalg Vice-President, Bob Lezovichp Secretary, Mary Lezovichg Treasurer, Virgil Hankinsong Sponsors, Mrs. Baldwin and Mr. Land. The two outstanding events of this year were the Play and the Prom. Mother is a Freshman was chosen to be our histrionic offering. The cast of characters was carefully selected, and under the masterful direction of Mr. Rasmussen, our Superintendent, a play was presented to our community that was outstanding. The Prom on May 8, 1954 was a gala affair. The theme was Blue Moon and the music was furnished by a Michigan State College organization called Blue Notes. It was an evening long to be remembered by our school. ' As Seniors -. This part of our history is written with a nostalgic tug at our hearts. The end of our happy, carefree, high school days is approaching with great rapidity. The events in our last year have appeared as if portrayed by a moving picture. The football season of 1954 had scarcely ended when the time came for our last play. Terror at Black Oaks was presented on the evenings of November 12 and 13. And again under the wonderful direction of Mr.. G. R. Rasmussen as entertainment of above-the-average-perfor- mance was given in our school. Our money making activities have been candy sales and a Senior Roast Beef Supper. The income from the candy booth has averaged six dollars per day and the Supper on February IZ netted S130.00. The Annual Senior Trip this year is a sojourn in Chicago of two days, followed by a three day cruise to Mackinac Island and Detroit on the S. S. North American. This event covered May 26 to May 31. The Commencement Period Schedule is as follows: Senior Trip - May 26 - May 31 Baccalaureate - June 5 Graduation - June 8 Class Motto: Every Man ls The Architect Of His Own Future. fFaber est auisgue suae fortunael Class Flower: Yellow Rose Class Colors: Blue and White
