from the PRESIDENT 9006069 x QP' ox 910966 It is an intriguing experience to attempt to write a Word tor the 1952 Sioux. The college annual is very much more than any other college publication. Other publications are necessary, factual and helpful, but the college annual is a part of our emotions. It tells accurately the history of the year. It interprets our life together both in picture and story. Here we laugh both with and at each other. It highlights the unusual and brings out personalities in a way not found elsewhere. It has romantic meanings also. I can never forget my own college annual which so beautifully portrayed the hoped for Mrs. Ptoaaman. In that summer before our marriage I spent many loving hours with that annual in her absence. Of course it may have bitter implications when one gets pictured with his beloved in the annual and 'then he changes be-lovecls, but we have to take the bitter with the sweet and I am sure the .4- sweet prevails. The college annual is often exotic. It may tell -the truth 'but without telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The truth thereby becomes a little lonesome and peculiar. I love college annuals for what they say, for what they do not say and sometimes for what they partially say. This annual of 1952 is a product of tremendous labors and the finest spirit of co-oper- ation between the Editorial and Publishing staff, the students and faculty. May the personnel who publish the book have continuous memories of joy from their labor and may all the readers enthusiastically appreciate the results of those laborsl flap Earl A.
