mint flllaaa iaiurg The senior class of 1968 started their book chasing in the fall of 1955. All toll, there were 38 of us in kin- dergarten under the sponsorship of Mrs. Rabendeaux. We were split in half with 19 country children and 19 town children. The country kids went to school in the morning. They included Janice Cunningham, Donna Stapp, Christie Wolfe, Annice Hamilton, Sharon Mabeus, Janie McElhinney, Jim Biggerstaff, Bob Boline. Robbie Boysen, John Corey, Don Crabill, Tim Elliott, Dan Inghram, Dennis McDonald, Steven Mesecher. Danny Pogemiller, Danny Sands, John Thomas, and Jim Hostetter. The town kids went in the afternoon. They inclu- ded: Janice McElroy, Marilyn McKeown, Becky Evans, Shirley Wilson, Becky Kimble, Kathie Beck, Terry Greig, Connie Baxter, Trudi Dean, Peggy Gimer, Jamie Griffith, Car01Br0wn, Richard Bryant. Dennis Hart- man, Eddie Wright, Bill Ivins, Mike Buster, Craig Johnston, Kenneth Hobbs, Larry Tisor, Dennis Crow, Jim Brown, Gary Ruble, and Donnie Dill. In the first grade, under the leadership of Mrs. Beck, we lost 5 members of our class. They were Peggy Gimer, Carol Brown, Janice Cunningham, Don Crabill, and Steven Mesecher. This lowered our number to 33 members. In second grade, we took on the leadership of Mrs. DeYarman. That year we lost 4 members and gained 2. We lost Terry Craig, Donna Stapp, Gary Ruble, and Bob Boline. We gained Marlene Mowery, and Steven Good- now. At the end of the year we had 31 members. Mrs. Hetherington took hold of the reins in third grade. That year we lost 4 and gained 3. This made an even 30 in our class then. We lost Dennis Hartman, Craig Johnston, Tim Elliott, and Danny Pogemiller. We gained Manny Calvin, David Calvin, and Randy McKee. Then Miss Brown took the lead rope in the fourth grade. That year we lost Jim Brown, Steven Goodnow, and Janice McElroy. Moose didn't like that very well. We gained Virginia lnness and Ray Lowe. That made our class total 29. In the fifth grade, Mrs. Caldwell lassoed us. That year we lost Marlene Mowery, Virginia Inness, and Kenny Hobbs. We gained Carol Brown, Barbara Hoffman, and Ada Lambert. In the sixth grade we had moved from the grade school to the high school building. The boys were leading the pack with 19 accounted for, and the girls were bringing up the rear with a mighty 14. In the sixth grade, under the spanking hand of Mrs. McElhinney, is where the action began. Eddie Wright always told she had a wicked paddle. It seemed like Eddie was always going outside for a moment. Anyway, we lost Barbara Hoffman and Ray Lowe. Terry Parkhurst became a mem- ber of our great class that year, and has never regretted it since. Seventh grade came and we were in Junior High. Boy, what a way to live! We were always having a big free- for-all with the eighth grade. We got to play Junior High Basketball that year and man--what an experience. We lost Larry Tisor and gained Frank Hayes and Kenny Staggers. Then we moved on to the eighth grade. We were the king of the Jr. -Hi. We ruled the roost. That year we lost Manny and David Calvin, Frank Hayes, Kenny Staggers, and Carol Brown. We didn't gain anyone so we finished our Junior High years with 29 members accounted for. Then the work began as we entered the freshman class of High School. The doors were locked, no more re- cess. Boy, what worse torture could you give a person? We finally got used to the idea and buckled down to our books. At least that's what we did when we weren't getting knocked around by the upper classmen. We lost Rob- bie Boysen, but gained Barbara Hoffman, Betty Boline, Vicki Calvin, Linda Ruble, Adell Aynes, and Dwight Byerly. Then we advanced as sophomores. They aren't supposed to do much so we were just there. We still got pushed around a lot but that's just part of growing up. We lost Janie McElhinney and Barbara Hoffman and gained Earl Reger. The next year we were Juniors. That's the year y0u're almost to the top and you get to start pushing the un- derclassmen around. We had to have a Junior-Senior Prom, too. Boy-did it ever scare us when it came Fri- day, the day of the Prom, and we had just started working. We got done about 5:30 P.M. and the banquet was to start at 6:30. When we all got cleaned up and back to the banquet, we didn't even look like the same people. Well, we all thought it was a lot of fun until it came to cleaning it up. Well, enough said. Back to the statistics. Beginning that year we lost Earl Reger, but We added Ruth Strawhacker to the ranks so it evened out at 33 at the end of the Junior year. Then came the fourth and final year of our high school career. We were the king of the hill once more. We did everything that was ever asked of us. We didn't even know what the word SENIORITIS meant. Due to cir- cumstances beyond our control, we lost Connie Baxter, Annice Hamilton, Betty Boline and Vicki Calvin. We didn't gain any so we were going to, we hoped, end the year with 29 accounted for. We hoped. because there seemed to be more homework and less time. But after it's all over, we'll miss school in one way or another. Altogether, 23, of us made it all the way from kindergarten to seniors as a group. The best of luck to the un- derclassmen and someday you'll see how good we were to you. CLASS OF '68
